OK I've been working with a freeware program that simulates oil painting and the results are pretty good, so I'll post a few of my masterpieces here. A painting of a sail boat for starters.

whoa! thats great.....are you using one of them pen/tablet thingys?

That is pretty cool but I dont really like the ultra strong contrast between the orange and the blue. Make it more subtle, or even stick to just one, and I think the picture would turn out a lot better :)

That said, it's still really good!

What programme are you using?

Wow looks awesome - I too like the surreal side to the sunset.

Could you post which freeware program? Could be useful for others wanting to try this out.

Looks Painter IX ish; good work.

Thanks for all the positive feedback, glad you like it. The program I used is ArtRage and if anyone is interested here's the link where you can get the latest version:http://www.ambientdesign.com/artrage.html

BTW here's another one entitled "Street Lamp Hallucination"

Well maybe those two were a little to clean. Here are two messy ones. Now don't tell me that doesn't look like oil.

Redneck, are you doing these from scratch or painting over photos?
.
Well... the sail boat one for instance is half paint over and half done by hand. The background with the sea and sunset is done by hand but the boat is from a photo and I simply painted over it. "Condemned" and "Red Tree" are done by hand and in "Street Lamp Hallucination" the boat and the buildings in the background are from a photo but the rest is done by hand. I could do it entirely by hand but I don't have a graphic tablet and with a mouse it's kind of difficult.

For real I only use tempera and acrylics. I tried oil once, but I find it to complicated so I don't use it. I have a friend that makes oil paintings on a regular basis and I think the program simulates oil very good, better than any other program I've ever seen.

You mean bigger then 1024x768 ? Some of them are bigger but some like "Condemned" and "Red Tree" are 1024x768. For instance the original "Street Lamp Hallucination" is 4000x3000. You can find a 1200x900 version here:http://remusbrailoiu.evonet.ro/thumbnails.php?album=3&page=1

Edit: that gallery for some strange reason doesn't work on Internet explorer so use something else.
