Greetings all,
Hello to everyone. I have been away for quite some time & didn't really realize what I missed until I came back to browse. I have *sniff* missed you all so much....
Yeah right... "MRG Who?" your probably asking yourself...
Anyways. you may recall that I had asked for some suggestions for a wireless router & after looking at the suggestions that were posted & PM'ed to me, (thanks BTW) & from my own research online, I ended up choosing the D-Link Dir-665 Xtreme N Gigabit Router.
All I can say right now is wow. This router is extremely quick. To give you an example. One family member was playing online in a full server with a ping of 20. My wife was online watching home improvement videos while I was downloading 5 files with a combined speed of close to 550 KB/Sec on my 6Mbps DSL connection. It was very easy to setup & the Network Magic software that it comes with is simple to use, yet has a rather robust selection of features & options to tweak. For a dummy like me, I liked them purdy graphics denoting my home network & the computers connected (3 at the moment).
For those looking, I recommend the Dir-665. Of course i'll admit that this is my first Wireless Router & so perhaps i'm just a bit giddy with that fact.
Tech Info at-a-glance:
Powered by Xtreme N? technology and equipped with three external antennas, this router provides superior wireless coverage for larger homes and offices, or for users running bandwidth-intensive applications. The DIR-655 also includes a 4-port 10/100/1000 Gigabit switch that connects Gigabit wired devices for enjoying lag-free network gaming and faster file transfers. With wireless prioritization technology and our award-winning intelligent QoS engine, jitter-free Internet phone calls (VoIP), high-definition video streaming and Web gaming are achievable on your wired and wireless networks. Support for WEP, WPA?, and WPA2? security standards ensure that you will be able to use the best possible encryption regardless of your other wireless devices. To prevent possible attacks from the Internet, the DIR-655 uses dual active firewalls (SPI & NAT) to help protect your valuable data. Below is a list of DIR-655 features.
* Intelligent QoS technology prioritizes both wired and wireless Internet traffic to enable enhanced gaming and phone calling (VoIP) experience
* Ideal for streaming HD video or streaming multiple applications simultaneously
* Dual active firewall protection (SPI & NAT) helps block malicious attacks on networks from the Internet
