Yeah well I guess i'm part of the (not so) fabulous food service industry now. I begin work.. today at 5pm washing dishes after school for 6.50 an hour.. so this should be an interesting experience. I need a way to make income to pay for my WoW addiction and other things so I'm actually excited to begin to make my own money. Hopefully I like the people who work with me and find a way to make standing up all that time fun.. what was your first (real) job, And did you like it?

fyi i'm 16, so 6.50 (u.s.) isin't bad for starting as a dish washer

My first actual job (as many other kids) was McDonalds...first 2 weeks...absolutly horrid..the smell, the work, the workers, it sucked big time. After a while I got used to it, learned the job and got to know some people and it got better overtime. Overall I spent a year at McDonalds.

i'm working for Heinamanns, an oldass chain of resturaunts that used to be candy shops.. yeah its kind of like of of those classic diner places.

Yeah I thought about applying at McDonalds too but it's too far away from my house, some kids at my school work there but I decided i'd rather work someplace I could walk to. Hopefully considering i've been going to this place with my family for ages it wont be too much of a shock to work there.. I know at first it will be annoying getting used to everything and how things are done but i'l get used to it.

Well concidering this is your first job...it's gonna be different. But it helps on your resume for getting other jobs that you actually want to get. Experience is the key.

get used to it, you'll be doing shitty work for the rest of your life. the sooner we all just accept and embrace it the better off we'll be. i make 765 an hour and i push carts. at least i'll be automatically a cashier in a few months, when i come of age.

I'm not complaining :p

My first job was at Mc Donalds as well, only we're talking 1988 and Holland. My first day was during celebrations in my hometown Leiden at that time (3rd of October fest, something like Mardi Gras I guess) .

Well I was 15 and looking 12 and working my ass off in the McDonalds lobby emptying trashcans and cleaning tables with Drunk people all around, puking and spitting and verbally abusing me for looking like an underaged dork. Work times were from 6 pm until 2 am.

I stayed 2 months and after that I got various other jobs a lot more fun.

Maybe you will, but not me. Its mostly to do with outlook.

My first job was with an eletrical appliance company, working in their warehouse.

It was great, taking stuff out to people's cars, going out in the delivery van, having fights with huge rolls of bubble-wrap.....

:D

my first job was washing dishes in a kitchen. was the worst job because the place served about 200 people for lunch each sunday (which was the only day i worked) and it was just me washing all the crap from these people. terrible job but worth it since it paid for the majority of my pc in my sig so it was worth it :D

lol after working in mcdonalds for a week i quit, such a crappy environment.
its actually far better pot washing, especially since all i was doing was stacking the dishwasher, also if you work in a hotel and cant be bothered stacking the dishes just drop them all and brush them up :p

hah, you're getting paid. At my school it was required that all non-seniors have a school related job. I washed dishes and sorted silverware for 2 years, then i did dining attendance. I worked the machine because i could do it quickly enough to get out before everybody else (since i was the first person to see the dishes, i could be the first out)

My first real job was working at a liquor store when I was fifteen. Best job ever at that age.

My first real job was at 15 cleaning houses ready for the owners moving back in after builders had finished doing their shit.

The job sucked ass and I'd come home every day, get in the shower and cough up a ton of dirt and dust.

cormeh man yes!"!!!!

i work in a warehouse for an electrical retailer!!

we got loadsa rubbish put it into a massive bag (rubbish = cardboard and polystyrene) the bag was about 7 ft long 3 foot wide cirular diameter, one person held it up the otherperson climbed onto the stairs and jumped into it, i did it put my leg thru it so we taped up the hole, we saw rubbish on the floor so we taped that to it, then we got the rubbish from all around the store taped it to this bag, he had a ball of rubbish bigger than me and im 6 ft tall !!

its so ****ing fun :p

My first real job was working at Jiffy Lube, and still I know jack about cars.

BUT I CLEANED YOUR CAR REALLY WELL!

My first real job was offered to me at my college. They were getting a load of new computers (410) and asked me and some friends if we could work through summer, helping them test, image, roll-out and set-up all the PC's. We also had to gather all of the old PC's, work out which would be worth keeping for the staff to use, take them apart, upgrade them a little, and roll them out to the staff areas.

We also had to log each computer, its specs, where it came from, where it was going etc etc... Was really good work, and GREAT experience because it was classed as an industrial sized job, so that will really help me get work later.

Got paid £5 an hour, 9-5, 5 days a week. Not bad pay really for a first job. No tax either because i'm a student! :D Was a laugh too, they asked a few of my friends to help too, so it was all fun. Also got to know all the tutors better too. :)
