Ehh...what?

Well, congrats for getting a paycheck from Fat Tony. Have fun with it:)

Aha...Well, that clears it up then =)

Full-time job or part-time job?

So if you just got the job... then you don't have a paycheck...

Okay, good on you mate!
/me gives the Badger a chocolate-chip cookie.

Oh btw, where do you buy your parts? Somewhere nice and cheap? Eh? I'm still looking for a good place to buy me Radeon 9600 Pro, so any advice would be great:)

Yeah, people like me becuase I don't charge on the parts I sell, just for assembly, so I give proper advice, and not just sell the most expensive thing :D

Oh, and Varg, I use www.dabs.com they are pretty much the best :) (if you're in the UK)
Ah, thanks! :)
I don't live in the UK, but my uncle does, so I can just have them send it to him and he'll send it to me (and pay the postage:P)
/me is a spoiled brat.

Watch out for 'DabsValue' you can pick up some really good stuff for very cheap :)

Im getting more then a computer for this money arent I :naughty: ooh sorry suppose u dont want anyone else to know...

badger, how do you get customers/clients? i'm done with school (graduating in may) and i'm having trouble finding a job....i have a job lined up starting in june, so i need something to do until then. i just started putting up flyers around my college's campus advertising custom computers, upgrade consulting, teaching how to block popups and remove adware...stuff like that.

i'm just relying on the flyers for now i guess...haven't really considered other means of advertisement. you doing things by just word of mouth? flyers or something? or do you work for someone...or what?

I do word of mouth mostly :)

Plus I know a rather trusted computer pro in my town, and he passes on the good word to people who find his 'expert' advice a bit too expensive :)

I'm going to put ads in the local shops, and newspapers, with the money earned from my first few sales :)

Congratualtions mrBadger :D
Money is a good thing.

I'm thinking about going into business for myself as well, you know, some contract killing on the side or something like that.

Real question is are you going to service the comps you build???????????????????????//
It can be a real pain trust me i know.

I am, but for the first year only :)

Yeah great and all, but when are you gonna do that Rick Ellis interview? Or are you expecting payment for that too? ;)

So, how much was your first pay check?

I normally use a place called MicroDirect, because its local and relatively cheap. Dabs is good but if you ahve somewhere local then i would go for that. However, you probably dont.

badger, there's a crapload of computer fares in and around london every saturday. you get stuff dirst cheap. it's all warrantied and packaged and legit. example, 64MB USB pen drive will cost you around 50 quid, but go to the fare and you can get a 128MB stick for the same price. i have no idea why it's so cheap but i go as often as possible. http://www.britishcomputerfairs.com/ use that site, very useful. the two i visit are in stratford in east london, and tottenham court road in central.

bargain city, especially if you're building pcs for a living. better value than dabs and people with first hand knowledge selling it to you.

My first paycheck was $30.
My second paycheck was $180. I'm rich.

My first week's pay check was £300 but the job was shit.

Now I earn £18,000 :D

yea...if you build good systems, component failure is the only problem you'll really run into...as long as you don't warranty software problems...lol

and component failure just means RMA and reinstallation...a pain in the ass for the customer, but bleh...as long as they know what they're getting they can't complain.

Yeah I don't do software, don't know enough about APIs at the moment :)

Um, the cheque was for 400 quid. But I only see 70 of it :)

Aww damn you lucky lucky man :( no computer company here takes part time workers :(

*thread revived!*

just got my first email from the flyers i put up. guy wants me to build him a system...so you charged £70, basically?

i think this guy wants me to try to build him a system inside an old apple II+ case...if that's what he wants of course i'll charge more than that :P

should be fun...might even fit a regular mobo...and if you have the disk drives, you could remove the guts and mount the optical drives in one, and the power supply in the other. though i wonder what type of connection the keyboard has...i bet that'd have to be replaced somehow.

i was looking at those mini-atx mobos, but they don't have agp...so if a regular mobo won't fit, a shuttle board would probably work pretty well...

The KS78X board I've got at the moment seems pretty small, and I found an Apple II classic on eBay... I think I'm going to buy it :)
