My idea for a HL2 mod !!

A human colony was founded on the planet XXX, but the contact has been lost after the colony was attacked by aliens. A team of soldiers is sent back to rescue the survivors.

gameplay : human team vs alien team. Humans would be equipped with machine guns, grenade launchers, and flame throwers; and of course, the scary radar which goes "beep beep beep" when aliens are getting closer. Aliens would be fast, resistant, able to run on walls and see in the dark. Maps would be dark.

What do you think ?

Well, I have to say that what you just said was the most thought out and polished idea for a mod I have ever seen. Good luck, and I hope it becomes the next Counter-Strike.

That has to be the most common story line of a Playstation1 FPS game.

I'll wait for NS:Source and why won't you go and play AVP? Thats exactly what you want.
 
Heres my crappy story from long long ago.. heres some tidbits.
The Epic: The Sixth Planet
Technology barley progressed since the late 2007. In fact most scientists were all working to one goal. The were all working on space travel. Eventually, a breakthrough came, in fact more than a breakthrough. Scientists for the first time, had mapped out the universe in such a way that they figured out a technological way to transport ones self to another planet, far far away.
The first planet we checked on was Mars. Hoping to find something, life or possibly the support for life. In the end, all dreams had faded of Mars. We checked more planets, many out of our solar system. For the second planet the USA developed a special group know as “SPI”. Special Planet Infantry, they would go to other planets specially trained to check the world for inhabitants or anything. Usually around 5 were sent, with a few jeeps with scanners built in, to track down any life.

The figured loomed into the air, seemed to go up forever and forever. The people, just like them, all hard at work and making a living. The towers were huge stretching into the clouds. It was like humans but yet in a medieval style age.

We just had to start killing them all, then they came. Those… beasts. They slaughtered nearly all of us. They found us, we couldn’t hide. Our whole military came… Nothing could stop them. It’s all our fault… we just had to report it in.. Our fault…and nothing more.. Now, we will all eventually die, theres nothing more to it. We can’t escape them.. Then again, the war has just begun

I don't feel like posting the dialogue of the story since it's pretty crappy and needs to be redone.
But it was inspiried by Starcraft, specfically Starcrafts, Xel'Naga.

Anyway to simplify it.
Humans find way to teleport.
Humans try and find life.
Humans find life, but none intelligent.
Humans finally find intelligent life on the sixth planet.
The intelligent life are humans.
The men on the sixth planet are for some reason ordered to kill these humans. They have no clue why. Most of the men disagree, but are trained to follow orders.
A far more intelligent alien life come after the men attack, and they report that in, massive amounts of men are teleported, to this planet to help war. We are getting pwned.

In the end we find out that we were made by this advanced species and were considered a failed species, and they were creating another species, extremely similar to us steering them in the right direction.

Wrote it up soooo long ago...

And to the thread starter, you just summarized alien vs predator.
 
um... *gives thumps up* well, it's cliched, and the planet XXX? i hope that's what i'm thinking it is! i guess you could get lost on it!

I want someone to make a Duck Hunt Source, im too stupid to make a mod myself, but whenever i see birds in HL2, i never let one go away alive, ide like to have a simple mod just like duck hunt, but obviously with a source touch :)

You can play duck hunt (well seagull and crow hunt) right in halflife 2. Many times I blasted the damned seagulls and crows in halflife 2. Saves the pain in the ass of modding it. Just load up to when you get out of the mining tunnel from ravenholm and bam! seagulls right by a train car just waiting to be blasted!

Ok, i didnt know that (i dont play much video games except sometimes CSS)
Maybe i'll go and try Alien vs Predator then !

Well sounds like the game Alien vs. Pretador. This was and is a great game, a source version would be nice!!
 
solution !

About the legal problem, how about making a mod just like Alien vs Predator, but instead of the alien, some zombies able de move just like them. Then each player can decide if he wants to manually replace the zombie model with a nice alien model... ?
 
Omfg, don't tell me you're seriously thinking of doing this mod?

If you have any hopes of this succedding, all you're going to do is make a few maps, with a few Fast Zombies in them.

Not to mention that there's already a mod already being worked on that's so far doing this fabulously.

Who needs ropes when you've got knives. Much more glamourous way of suicide. Then, since you can watch yourself die, you can write something on the wall in blood.

But suicide is a grisly prospect, and I honestly hope that none of you are seriously considering it. I, at one point (a long time ago) considered it, and now I realise that life is much to precious to waste just because you think it's not worth living.

Not to mention suicide is extremely selfish...
 
this idea has been done, done to death and beyond (as Pi will gladly demonstrate). There are already loads of aliens/zombie mods. Try to come up with something more original and it will get far more support here :)

Or how about just playing Alien vs. Predator and making something original instead of just a dumb rehash?
