My improvisation

wow that was sweet. i used to play keyboard (the dumbasses piano) but not so now. i just get stupid sounds out of it to put in my songs :P
wish i could play stuff like that. id love something piano-ey for an intro of a song
COLLABBBBB *cough* ow ahem. keyboards sound poo for real life instruments.

good work anyway! *end of brain scribble*

nice stuff. it's abit generic, but i like the way it's evolving. gets too random after 03:15

it feels like you start an idea but don't follow it through, instead you abort it and go to something else. you build up a lot of tension without releasing it, but it could be intentional i suppose

you seem to have really good hand coordination, i suppose youve been playing for much longer than me! beautiful glissandos :)

Thanks so much for the criticsm, I'll definelty start focusin on structure and organization more.

What I'm trying now, but really slows down my flow, is modulation and smoothly changing tonalities.

And yeah, if theres any complaint about my improv is that its generic and new age sounding, I think its probably due to the fact I've been improvising for not very long and am just learning the ropes.

Thanks for the kind words Neptune. And hey, if you got a riff or a chord progression or anythin you want me to improvise/play just let me know.

actually i was thinking in reverse. if you got a cool tune, id like to build a song out of it based on whatever key its in etc
or do a full on song, piano n all. something different

you may be horrified my crap, its here: http://neptune.dmusic.com/ im always looking for different genres and sounds so its pretty wierd stuff.

heh, all I do nowadays is improv. its pretty nice, certainly different from the jazzy stuff I do. I'll see if I can get a decent recording (tries in vain to string a microphone cable to his piano)

I like your stuff, some of it is pretty simplistic and IMO, could use more musical development, but definetly got potential. I was actually listenin to it back when you made your thread and forgot to comment.

But sure, ill come up with somethin and send it your way, also let you know the key, chords, etc...

Okay, finally I figured out a way to string my microphone to the piano, but unfortunatley I had to put it inside the piano right next to the pedals, so there are alot of pops and clicks associated with the pedal movement.

But here is a file of me improvising on the Zelda theme:

Yeah i know what you mean. i havent been playing for long at all but i started with improvisation, it's been the only thing that interested me about the piano. at first it was to extend my playing abilities for synth music and melodies but now i've grown fond of the piano itself and the things you can do with it. it really helps for creating orchestral and string pieces digitally as well.

i too have a bad problem with the structure and following through ideas, it's usually more fun to just modulate to something else whenever you have the chance :P

i've recently taking classes since i feel learning to read sheet notes is an important skill, and i've also picked up some good cordination and finger placement tips.

you seem to be fricking awesome with the piano though, so i bet you'll be churning out soundtracks and concerts to the left and right in no time. :o

heres some stuff ive made with my rather crappy midi keyboard. i prefer playing on my real piano but i dont have a proper mic set up.

some piano at the end of this little monotone string movie thing

you can tell i'm a sucker for the aeolian mode, right? :P

theotherguy, that was beautiful! very jazzy, awesome playing. :o

Ya, comments and crits welcome as always.

Nice, I liked that. Maybe it's a little generic, but I like the opening motif and how you revisit it later, and I like the sparse little passages around 1:50+ (don't know any technical music terminology, sorry). You seem to have a good grasp of effective dynamics. As for potential improvements I dunno...It does kind of peter out towards the end. Maybe that recurring idea could have been expanded upon slightly more. Don't be afraid to revisit, repeat, and redevelop some ideas, although you do this to an extent already. But yeah, it was good. Nice and cohesive in mood despite being improv.

That was cool - I don't know the Zelda theme well enough to recognise anything but the most iconic parts, but it was fun.

I got some improv jamming with a drummer and guitar player. These are select clips of a pretty lengthy jam session, of which there a number of tapes of other sessions. The qualitys not so great, it was a couple decent mics going into a tape deck. We got a pretty avant guard sound, so don't let the first impressions get in the way. I'm on the bass. all the riffs are on the spot so don't expect me to be playing perfect all the time :P

Growth Spirt
Break
Something Blue
****in' Around (replace the **** with the obvious in the url)

Refer to THIS THREAD to hear a song from a recording done with a ska band I was in, or just go HERE

growth - not keen on the guitar sounding thing. (i r teh master of guitar sound rape)
bass is spot on. well done.

break - guitar sounds nice and funky, so does the bass. thats sechs! particularly pleased with the drumming too.

blue - bass is niceand bluesly, guitar soundsa bit out of place. and by out of place i mean poo. drumming isnt very impressive and doesnt sounds bluesy (if thats what you were aiming for)

****in round - all round nice wierd song, all 3 of you doing quite well :)

interesting peices

We werent going for anything, and the names don't really mean anything. But thanks for the feedback :)

edit: heres another jam...

Soul'd
Kinda starts out with a soul feel then turns into rhythmic syncopated ostanado thing...
