It only works when inserted at a specific angle of rotation, and recently it would only work if I also held it at an angle (of incidence?) as well. Now today, I have to push it straight in, rotate it, angle it, apply more pressure, and hold it in place with my left hand.

Is there any way to repair it myself? Like cut away the plastic around the lead that connects to the laptop to see if there's a wire i can realign or something? I'm incredibly poor and also recently fired, and the internet makes job hunting a lot easier.

What does the connector/receptacle look like? Round with a pin in the center, or something proprietary? Pics would help. My answer is: maybe.

If there is no method like that, I'd suggest jamming it with something on top of it or under it. That normally works m8.

It's currently wrapped around itself, held in place by pushing the laptop up against the base of my desk lamp.

It's a circular connector with a pin. Or rather it has a hole, where the pin inside the laptop's inlet sits. My laptop is an LG R500, and the charger provides 19V/4.74A/90W of power, for whatever that's worth.

Might. But it seems to have undergone some "work hardening", where the metal of the wire becomes hard and brittle from being folded and bent through years of use, so I'm thinking there might be a way to cut away the rubber around the lead and re-set the wire into it. I'm gonna wait until it gives out completely for that.
