....and it's starting to piss me off. I hate LCD technology. :frown:

Just another "projected longevity" marketing scheme tbh just like automotive companies do with newer model cars to make users spend more money.
CRT's don't fail nearly as often, and I'd just get a trinitron or a TruFlat if I had the space on my desk. They have richer contrast and colors anyways. :p

I tried switching with a known good monitor and cable several times and now I'm pretty sure it's the monitor and not the video card(s). I even switched the drivers for both the monitor and gfx card(s) but to no avail.

I have to hit the sleep key to put the PC into standby state when starting up (while the monitor itself is off) then hit wake before the monitor will work, and sometimes I have to do this several times or just wait for awhile before hitting wake then turning on the monitor. If I don't do this, the monitor won't display anything and it's power light will blink on and off.

It's been like this for awhile, but started to cut off in the middle of a task while the power light blinks on and off like I stated above.

ViewSonic's website was no help in troubleshooting, so now I ask HelpLife2.net, is it time for a new monitor?

BTW, It's barely two years old.

Is the LCD connected to VGA or DVI? What cable did you use for the other monitor you tested?
If you used different connectors on the video card then the video card should also be a suspect. (not related to drivers)

I tested DVI for both.

VGA is out if the question for me if it still works. I prefer DVI quality.

I'm sure the video card's DVI port is still good anyways, as the other monitor had no problem with it.

You said you tried a known good cable. Did you try the good cable on the troubled LCD?
If so then it is time for a new monitor.

Dammit. :(

I wish you could IP my monitor back to health with your troubleshooting prowess Asus. Then I'd consider you a god. :E

Uhg. It's hard to find good monitors these days. Can you recommend a good brand?

I'd like to find one with at least a two year warranty this time, which is impossible though.
Also, I like the 1280x1024 standard ratio screens. (I know, widescreen is what's in, don't laugh.)

Before you do that, lemme take a whack at it:

Check if you have "Hibernation" enabled. This is how you do it (In case you're not sure how).

Right-click desktop area, Property, Hit "Screensaver" tab, hit "Power" tab, hit "Hibernate" tab, check if hibernation is enabled. If it is, disable it.

Good Luck.

Nope. Thanks for the suggestion anyways Barney.

I'd really like to get out of this without spending any money, but at this point, it doesn't look like that's going to happen.
