Im getting a new computer, I know what parts i want but i dont knowwhat wattage PSU i should get here are the parts:

AMD Athlon 64 3000 motherboard bundle
768 Mb DDR RAM
Asus ATI Radeon X800 Pro
Thermaltake XaserIII V1000 Case(has 7 fans in it and a regulating controll panel)
DVD RW Drive
80GB HDD

The place i am getting it built at(my local indipendent Computer shop) says that a 500W should be enough, but i would like a second opinion please help me.

you will want 400 watt power supply i just got 450 watt and about 300 - 350 watts you need for a radeon graphics card so just get a 400 watt or more!!

500 will be enough, I personally wouldn't get anything lower. Always good to be on the safe side, eh?

i've got a 550w with 2 FAST fans on, and its puuuurfect. Future proof :)

from novatech, £23 i think give u link if u want it, just PM me :)

You don't need a high watt PSU.
400Watt is plenty and would be good for allowing upgrades (HDDs, GFX etc).
Just make sure it's a good brand (Antec, Enermax, Forton, Thermaltake etc). They use good parts that won't go bad with stress and they give you a good amount of power on each rail within the Powersupply.

Athlon 64's use LESS power than Athlon XPs and Pentium 4's. My Watts used dropped when I upgraded from a AXP 2800+ to a A64 3000+ (OCed 2.3GHz).
Although it did go back up when I switched out a 9800pro for the GT.

Be careful about cheap PSU's. I plugged my radeon into a 300 watt power supply (along with the rest of my computer) and it ran for a little while, and just died on 3dmark03. I'd recommend a name brand one with sufficent wattage (400-500).

just make sure it is not cheap psu or you might here nice little bang. once i got shocked by a cheap psu and now i don't by chepo ones

The shop i am gettitng it all built from is offering me a 500W PSU for £30, but i think i get a discount because they are actually building the computer, i saw the box but i never saw the price sticker on it so i dunno if i have got a discount. but i was looking on Novatech and i saw the PSU that goes with my case for £50 (onc VAT) which one do you think i should get?

Hmm well it's hard to know whether it's a good psu. Do you have a link to it? But take a look at the Thermaltake I gave a link to a couple posts above. I know my link is dollars but if you can find that Thermaltake it would be awesome for your system.

I already posted a topic with that question but now I'm not sure if the answer "It will be OK" was right.
My specs:
Celeron 1.8Ghz
IntelD845PESV mobo
256MB RAM
GF4MX440
all packed in a 300W tower.

Now I will have the same speca except for the CPU and mobo:
Athlon 3000+
ASUS A7N8X-X

Will my 300W tower and PSU be enough? If not will the computer not boot? How do you know how much wattage do you need anyway?

Edit: My PSU has written on it something like this "COMBINED LOAD 200W; TOTAL OUTPUT IS 350W". What does that mean?? The case is called Codegen Long 300W P3/P4 Middle BTW.

Ive found a 550W PSU on novatech for £27 could u guys tell me if its any good. You can check it out
Here

If not can u tell me a UK website that i can get a good 480+W PSU for a good price.
