I just received my new XFX Geforce GTX260 vid card today much to my excitement. So I uninstalled my old drivers and took out my card. I put the new card in, powered up, and nothing from the new card at all. Not even a fan rotation. It appears it's completely dud but I just wanted to make sure before I pack it back up and send it off for replacement.

I meet all the minimum specs, and my 9600GT is back in and running fine. I tried both PCI-E slots as well and no go on any of them.

Is it a faulty card?

brand new card, or used?? also where did you buy it from, who is the maker??

Sounds like a dud card unless there's something random you're doing wrong installing it. I have an eVGA GTX260 and had no trouble getting it running.

is it possible you need 2 power adapters connected to the card. sometimes when you only have 1 it won't work

I have two ;) Even with one connected, there should be signs of life, with maybe a crash or notice it's not getting enough power.

Thanks mate, but those links assume that the card is powering up in the first place, which mine is nit. It's like I haven't even got it plugged in at all (but I have, and correctly wired)

How do you find the card in performance terms?

hmmmmm, I'd see about returning it. what the seller's rating??

this card is DDR3, is it not?? would your PCs memory have to be the same??

you should take a look at the specs again and make sure its compatible

No, that shouldn't matter, as long as he has a PCI-E slot on his mobo, enough power, and drivers installed it should work. I have DDR2 memory on my PC and it does not conflict.

Trust me, the card is compatible.

It would be nice to get it to power up so I could install the drivers. I'm seeing by your replies the card's ****ed, I've already e-mailed but I'll ring in the morning and arrange a replacement. Thanks fellas. :)

Try it in another machine with a bigger power supply (friends perhaps). If it fires up, then you require a better PSU. If it doesn't return to sender. Be aware those cards are hungry on the wattage, and the XFX cards require 2 6 pins directly from the PSU. 1 direct 6 pin and 2 fours and a 6 pin adapter might not cut it.

My 9600GT is an XFX and one pin works exactly the same as 2. I also have two 6 pins directly from the PSU feeding into it to no avail.

There's bit of a jump up in in power reqs between a 9600 and a 260, that's why it requires 2 pins direct. Its probably drawing off quite a chunk of your current PSUs power. Might be worth carrying out a system calculation to see whether you need a larger PSU:-

Otherwise it sounds like your new card is FuBaR RTS.

Well, I dropped it into the local PC hardware store today and asked them to test it for me. They got it working without trouble, so it is my PSU. I'm dropping my PC into them tomorrow and they are going to sort the whole shabang out for me seeing as I have never changed a PSU before.

Seems you guys were right, thanks fella's :) I probably would have just returned it then had the same trouble again further down the line if I hadn't posted on here. God I'm a numpty.

Sucks that you went to a shop just to change PSUs. Its one of the simplest things to change in a PC.

Not if the motherboard is in the way and has to be removed, then it's a bitch.

I got the exact same GFX card, works like a charm.

If you are using an adapter to convert a 4pin molex (regular) into a GPU power plug then you could try using a different power plug from your PSU (or if it's modular plug in a new string). The reason I say this is because if it is a PSU that has more than one +12v rails than it might be trying to use from the same rail as what your motherboard etc is using too and coming up short on power while another rail is just sitting there.

If you are using the GPU power plug that your PSU came with then I don't think you would run into this issue.
