I have a RADEOM 9800 and have never had this problem!
I'll turn it on, it works for 5 minutes, then it keeps being on but my screen says "picture not available" or something of the sort. When I open my case the videocard is burning hot. I let it cool overnight and it happened again.

The only think I can think of that would have caused it is that I left it on for 3 or 4 days (only turning off the screen.)

I'm so scared/pissed, i need this computer! (I'm typing from an old laptop)

the problem is with the videocard though, I can't just get a new videocard fan.

Turns out it was stuck. I spun it manually for a few revolutions and off it went.

Yeah thats what happens when you let dust build up inside of your comp. Get a can of compressed air and clean it out. Not only will your fan work it will spin faster and everything will be clean and happy. Your computer works best when it is happy.

WOWO QUE, 1000 posts!
Can of compressed air, where can I find that?

If you're not careful, compressed air can seriously damage a computers fragile circuitry.

At first when I saw the thread, I thought maybe it was your power supply that was causing the problem... but hrm. Guess its your video card.

Where can you get compressed air? ... Oh c'mon. Any store will have it. Wal-Mart, K-Mart, any computer shop...

What you do is you turn it upside down and spray it. It's like a fountain.

Oh shits, it is. 1001 now :D

compressed air? staples?

I think whne you turn your pc in safemode it does not use the video card. I mean it won't help you solve your problem, but atleast you can do other stuff now with it.
In any case I clean my PC from dust every 6 months or so, ow much timesa year do you people recommend.

Of course it uses your video card... how else could it display the image? Starting up windows normally or in safe mode is going to use the same amount of the card anyways...

Not really. From my experience iwth my ****ed up vid card when i start up the comp normally i get artifacts all over the windows logo on startup, then my computer crashes with lines everywhere. If i put the comp in safe mode, it loads up perfectly because it's using the mother board graphics card. I even looked in display and all my advanced ATI settings are gone in safe mode.
