Now that there is no HL2 and DOOM III, what should I play this year? UT2K4? This is a sad period in gaming history...

I havent seen many DX9 effects in CoD or UT2k4 , thats the real reason to have high end cards , at least for mine

Sure, DX9 effects are nice, but I got a 9800 pro mainly for the humongous amount of FPS I can attain.

These don't have Dx 9 effects, but they're great games.
KOTOR, Freedom Fighters.
COD is great, and I hear MP2 is good. And of course, Halo. I heard the PC incarnation wasn't as good as the origianl, though.

I couldn't agree more :/

There's no games that really test my Radeon - so I get 100+ FPS where as before I had 60 whoopdeedoo

Big waste of money (could have waited, spent the same amount of money, and ended up with a better card)

whats COD and anyway the next chips that would have come from nvidia and ati are expecting in march since nvidia and ati have signed some sort of deal to slow down the graphics wars... so in the end you would ve bought the same card since prices only drop when a better card comes out....

halo?, halo works realy lame on my comp, dunno why i got realy nice machine, maybe cause of the radeon, its game that created for the x-box (n-vidia)

No, G0rgon, Far Cry uses the CryEngine, unless I'm very much mistaken.

ul dude, halo does require one badass cpu, around a 2.5 p4 and maybe a 2700 barton... but then again they did have to convert 128 bit code into 32bit which is the reason why it sucks.... blame microsoft for changing halo from a pc to xbox game.. it would have looked better, run better and been out aloong time ago....

And if ur really boored go old style and try soldier of fortune 2 or CandC generals until dec comes about, deux ex 2 :bounce

Halo does use some DX9 effects
Fay Cry uses the CryTek engine. (extreme bump-mapping)

they call it poly bump, but i think this is another marketing hype thing like with p4s and hyperthreading.. but the models do look impressive and so does the scenary. I am impressed with what they have come up with and i cant wait for the game.. anyone know the release date? i havent been keeping up to date with it....

I don't think its just your machine. It ran rather poor on my machine(still playable) and I have a good machine:

AMD XP 2800+(2GHz)
NF7-S Mobo w/Nforce 2 chip
1GB Memory
Radeon 9800 Pro

It does kind of suck now that I think of it. My main reason for buying the Radeon was because of HL2 and its release date on Sept 30th. They are saying it won't be coming out until April 2004 now so they will probably have a Radeon 19800 by the time it comes out.

breed sucks apparently.

havent played it but PC gamer basicly says its a nice big cake but once you take a bite you find its infested with maggots.

Dougy, that article was about Chrome , not Breed, they look similar, but Breed hasn't been reviewed yet.... whereas Chrome has.

In short. We don't know about Breed yet. Don't buy Chrome.

Oh, and I thought Halo was running good on my comp, I turned off the 30FPS cap, and it runs EVEN faster, I'm getting like 60FPS constant

I'v played the the demo of breed and i thought it was shite.

I made some use of my radeon 9800pro, i couldn't run games like UT2003 at 1280x960 with 8x AF or mafia at the same rez but with 6x FSAA and 16x AF on, on my GF4.

I played the Breed demo and enjoyed it.... but bear in mind, that was only a beta demo, and was full of bugs and clipping problems.... it's not as good as Halo however

Usable vehicles.

Great graphics(apparently they've been improved and fixed from the beta and demo).

...and so on.

Check www.gamesdomain.com, they have two previews on it, one of which is a hands on.

Odd it looks like a remake of tribes kind of thing, graphically it looks outdated but apart from that it doesnt look bad.

Ill be waiting for another tribes for the pc or something like planetside or i mgiht just jump onto the bf bandwagon, ive never pld it, never looked at any screenshots any info on that game? playability etc? easy to pick up?is there any co op in it where u and a mate over lan can play against the AI?

Halo is locked at 30fps by default..

Check out the advanced menu and turn it off.

I have a 9800AIW (standard speeds), run 1280x1024 on max details and I seem to get a smooth 60fps frame rate (according to fraps).

Thats with a 2400+ too.

Definitly Halo, they use pixel shaders more than any other game did or does right now.
But on the other side, Halo is crap ;(
