My Speaker Port has stopped Working

My Speaker Port has stopped Working - Help
it was working fine until this afternoon

the speaker port still works fine while the onboard speakers on the laptop still function perfectly

i'm not sure how relevant specs are here so i won't post 'em
my device manager says everything is functioning fine

any ideas?

Is it the plug-in for on-board sourd (plug into the motherboard) or a dedicated sound card?

it must be onboard because its a laptop
