Well, this is my first post. So enjoy.

It all began from reading the other ideas. I agree that Chell is a criminal. Stolen from jail. But I disagree with one thing: Aperture Sciense Laboratories and GLaDOS didn't blow up.

Why? I'll tell you why:

The place where Chell went, was Aperture Scienses TESTING enrichment center. So, I think that there is bigger Apreture Sciense laboratory or HQ. The test enrichment center would be imported from the other, because it would be propably illeagal and very brutal to send prisoners in the center to DIE. And/or people like Chell like to blow up such buildings.

But there is this sneaky idea: the whole corporation is evil & twisted. Test Enrichment center was a set up.

'The cake is a lie!'

They wanted to make it spooky. To test the freakin' prisoners in negative surroundings. I think GLaDOS mentioned it in the game. If the paintings and drawings were real, GLaDOS would put up one of thous rocket thingies what come out of the floor, and blow the spooky walls up.
This might sound like Resident Evil, or something else. But to me, it all makes sense.

Also when Chell is sliding to the firepit, why GLaDOS didn't tell her to drop the Device before going to that moving platform. Or fill the room with her famous 'Neurotoxin' (I hate when she says that.)

Also in the ending, why just ONE rocket thingie?
I understand that GLaDOS is a supercomputeregoistevilprofessor but she is still alive. And doing sciense. And she wasn't in the test enrichment centre. That was remote controlled robot.

So what to expect from Portal 2?

The Portal device is broken and Chell is hurt. Evil plans to kill Chell in the test enrichment centre has failed and Aperture Scientist's go for a manhunt. The whole thing happens before Half Life 2, but after Half Life 1. You see, I believe that someone got out alive, teleport technology with him/her. He/she would propably would put up the whole Aperture Sciense.

Who this person is?
Well remember back in Half Life 1, when you go to Xen, theres a dead fellow with hazard suit on. I think one of the scientist were able to take hazard suit and survive from the explosion with teleporting technology with him/her. Or then he/she escaped before the explosion.

Anyways, worlds of Half Life and Portal happened in the same world. That is prooved also in the portal boss fight, Black Mesa logo flashes in the screen. In 'Still alive' term 'Black Mesa' is also said.

So I hope you understand my poor english & spelling. Its not my main language.

I hope also that you got any sense from my theory.

What were was it said that Chell is a prisoner?.
I thought that Chell was just a lab rat being guided though the tests by Glados.

Also when Chell is sliding to the firepit, why GLaDOS didn't tell her to drop the Device before going to that moving platform. Or fill the room with her famous 'Neurotoxin' (I hate when she says that.)
GLADOS could not kill you directly because of her morality core, once you destroyed it in the final battle by putting it into the fire, then she is able to use the Neurotoxin.

The scientists you see on Zen were sent there a while ago to collect specimens for experiments and got killed. I don't think they were trying to escape any explosions.

There was lot of new info for me. I should really play subtitles on, and listen the dialogue more carefully. Isn't there a cahnce, that one of scientists would accidentally survive from the explosions in Xen?

It's possible that a scientist went to Zen to survive the Black Mesa Incident,But it's highly unlikely and suicidal. Zen is an extremely dangerous place, where your common unarmed scientist doesn't stand a chance. There is also the problem of getting back to earth, with the teleporter destroyed in the Black Mesa incident.

Also your Idea of the Portal Gun being broken in Portal 2 is not going to happen. The Game is called portal and people like playing around with portals.Breaking the Portal gun and making chell go on the run is a terrible idea and is not going to happen.

I highly doubt Chells a prisoner. And imo the TC's theory fails.

You make some very interesting points. Although, with further investigation into the matter, your argument starts to break down.

Exhibit One: The Valve-Started Aperture Science website, www.aperturescience.com. If you log in as an ADMIN by using the username 'Cjohnson' and password 'tier3', found from the Companion Cube Chapel in Test Chamber 17, there is a section entitled 'Notes.' By exploring this further, we discover that the Aperture Science was a shower-curtain manufacturing company for the military. Its founder "Cave Johnson" had gone mentally insane due to a dose of mercury. He left the "3 Tiers" or 3 R&D ideas to keep Aperture in business. The first is the "Counter-Heimlich Maneuver," failed. The second, the "Take-A-Wish" foundation, where they would steal the wishes of terminally ill children to give to healthy adults, failed. The third, and most important, "Some kind of rip in the fabric of space... That would... Well, it'd be like, I don't know, something that would help with the shower curtains I guess. I haven't worked this idea out as much as the wish-taking one." This one was actually a success, dubbed "Portal." Now, here is a part that is extremely important...

'Word reaches Aperture that another defense contractor named Black Mesa is working on a similar portal technology. In response to this news, Aperture begins developing the Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System (GLaDOS) an artificially intelligent research assistant and disk operating system."

This proves that GLaDOS was, in fact, manufactured at the Enrichment Center. The EC was the main Aperture Research facility where they constructed GLaDOS.

Exhibit 2 - In-game, we find a red telephone with a severed wire. It is revealed through research that this phone was, in-fact, an emergency hotline that researchers were to use if GLaDOS started to take over the facility. The wire was severed and the Neurotoxin was administered...GLaDOS, the rampant AI, had taken control of the entire Enrichment Center.

. . .

And that is all I can attack at this time.

I agree, Pimpin. Zen is dangerous. Some of those koans can kill.

Good points. Though I didn't do much backup research. But I think Portal 2 would have even SOME similiarity with my theory? Agreed?

(Atleast I have whole new theory)

I don't think there will be a Portal 2 in all honesty. If something did crop up, I think we'd find GlaDOS in a completely different setting, perhaps in the Borealis or somewhere remote. I'm assuming the Aperture Science vacility was decimated in the explosion.

It's been said over and over again that Aperture Science will likely be involved with Half-Life 2 EP3, so I'm guessing that instead of a Portal 2 there's going to be some Portal-y stuff in Episode 3.

FAIL

The enrichment center IS A FREAKING SEPARATE PLACE.

Type in "THECAKEISALIE" all one word. Read it.

"And while we're all working on twenty year old equipment, somehow they can afford to build an 'Enrichment Center'."

If you've been reading other ideas, you should've been reading their critisisms.

Go do that.

Oh, and Luke Skywalker's a prisoner because he wears an orange jumpsuit too. Yeah, some great proofs there

Aah, psht, you know what I meant. For the awkward: he's not wearing a jumpsuit because he's a criminal.
