Hey guys... I'm having a little problem with FPS. Basically, I took out all the unneccisary features like anti-aliasing on the ropes, and took out teeth and eyes on the player models. I have everything set on low, with no AA and anistropic at bilinear. I set the -dxlevel to 8, and turned all my settings on the graphics card to optimal performance. I'm running...

2.4Ghz intel
ATI X850 pro 256 (w/ Omega Drivers)
1 gig DDR ram
150 gigs HD space
Audigy Gamer

Now, with everything on ridiculously low, during the CSS video stress test, I average about 50 during the more graphicaly demanding parts, and shoot up to bursts of 180-200fps. Because of these random and very short bursts, it says my average is 98fps.

During a game however, I have around 10-20 ping, and get 40-50fps on average walking around alone, and as low as 15 during a firefight.

This is with everything on ridiculously low. Maybe I'm being hopefull, but I would think I should be able to run everything on high and be ok, and meduim and be perfect.

Any thoughts?

Well, sometimes high end cards will act like they're having a hard time rendering the scene when having to deal with such low options. Especially a low resolution (640X480 and 800X600) often have bad influence on the FPS for such machines.

Alright, well I think you are right on that, but now my problem has change a little. Basically now, I cant run the game on anything other than directx 8 or 8.1. I've re-installed directX twice now to no avail. If I put the settings on high which use to work, the game just freezes in the laoding screen.

Force DXLEVEL
You can also force a particular DirectX level which might help with some older video cards (will run a little faster too):

DirectX Version 9.0 = -dxlevel 90
DirectX Version 8.1 = -dxlevel 81
DirectX Version 8.0 = -dxlevel 80
DirectX Version 7.0 = -dxlevel 70

To set this, just add the "-dxlevel 81" in your game launch properties.

Try this ;)
