Lately ive been seriously considering on purchasing an Xbox 360. The main reason is coz of the brill games already out and coming up and the fact that the PS3 has been dealyed.

I currently have a "beast" of a PC which cose bt £700 to build in April. Now im really into FPS, third person adventure/stealth games, and RTS. I also want my games to look the best thay can. This made me think "Should i really get a 360? I mean after all the games that come on that will eventually arrive on PC looking better and can get FREE content for them too (rather thann buying xbox points). OK fair enough you have to upgrade maybe once a year, but I think its worth it coz u get:

FREE online gameplay
Games look the best
Cant play FPS using xbox controller, it just aint right
No decent RTS games

The major upside to owning a 360 is games like Fight Night 3 and Pro Evo 6, where a multiplayer session with mates on a night in can last to the early hours!! I think I will eventually get a 360, when no more PS2 games are made. One question though about HDTV, they say its like normal telly but at higher resolution.... so is that basically saying "its a bigger monitor?". Are monitors HD?

Believe me, I don't own an fps for console but all of my friends do, and you will get used to it after a while, its not that hard.

Stick to the pc if you want rts and fps. For pretty much everything else i'd choose consoles.

I dunno, I prefer racing games on the keyboard..I'm just too damn proficient with it.

Fighting games...definately the controller for that, then again, I do good ol' fighting games on my ROMs pretty well I think....

Monitors are 'HD' although HDTV's use specific resolutions. CRTs would be ok but most LCDs for the PC have odd aspect ratios so I would think they'd be a bad pick for using with a console.

Part of the draw for HDTVs is that they are bigger and you can sit back while enjoying the detailed image on your couch/chair. Rather than sitting arms length away from the screen at your desk.

Pro Evo 6 will come out for the PC with multiplayer + online mp. You'll be able to download an option file and all the correct kits with the PC version too.

If you wanna play with friends, then you'll probably need a USB port for each controller, meaning you'll have to buy a USB hub with more ports.

Most PC USB controllers have the exact same layout as the PS2 controllers anyhow.

From what I gather the PC version will be a port of the PS2 PES6, not the HD version for the 360. I'm not that fussed about the visuals, but would like things to look shiney :) It's alot easier for 4 mates to crowd around a big tv too.

//edit - this hasn't been confirmed btw, and would be absurd if true.

fps between console and pc depends on the user preference and like an earlier post "use to it"

Heh, I tried getting used to the controller, but I kept finding infinate ways the mouse/keyboard aspect is greater than the joysticks on a controller...so in the end, my mind snapped, and I went back to the keyboard/mouse.

Buy a game pad and your computer is now a console.

For pro evo 5, i bought it on PC, i've got 1-4 on PS2. PES5 on PC has meant i've kept all the kits updated and customised, played online and i've got a usb connection to use the PS2 controller with my PC, therefore ticking all my boxes. With PES6 round the corner, i shall repeat- the PC has superceded the console in this respect.

There's no way to aim precisely. Controllers for FPS are just garbage. There's always some sort of lock-on or autoaim that helps you aim. It's absolutely insulting to play a FPS on a console.

You don't get used to it ever. It's like telling a brain surgeon that he'll get used to do doing surgery with a pipe wrench.

Yea, eventually it becomes natural, and you just get immersed into the game.
Thats my favourite part of a console... Controls are simple
Not saying that Keyboard controls are hard, hell, I don't think, I just do. I just find an easier time getting immersed into Console games.

... I still don't get the mind-numblingly hard part of shooting and moving a damned gun on a console. :| The flesh on the far left of your right hand or the far right of your left hand is called a thumb, children. Slowly moving your thumb in a 360 pattern on the analog will circulate the movement of the crosshair on your TV.

(1)FREE online gameplay
(2)Games look the best
(3)Cant play FPS using xbox controller, it just aint right
(4)No decent RTS games

(1) First, that online gameplay truthfully is'int free. Consider your account status, wether its Bronze, Silver, or Gold. Each of them will require either a monthly payment plan or a 3-4-6-12 month payment plan and the amount due rests on account status. I'd recommend going gold with your account. For a 12-month plan for Gold Status its only between 40-70 dollars at the end of your registration time. The Perks offered over Silver and Bronze accounts is in Tournament Notifications, Upgrades, Downloads, Content, and Feature Restrictions/Liberties.

Go the full monty, and hit that account at Gold.

(2) Games might look the best but thats because the XBox 360 has no other platformers competition besides the Wii or the Playstation 3. But still, you're right to be excited. You get some nice high end visuals for whats coming out. Games like Gears of War and Halo 3 will deliver on that note, I assure you.

(3) You'll have to get used to it. And you will. I never got used to the controller initially when I played Halo for the first time on the original XBox. I was sluggish, could'nt aim, and had no situational awarness in that game whats no ever. But your human, and you'll adapt something that fits your style. If your a bit of a twitch shooter like I'am for the PC, you might want your sensitivity at 8 or higher.

Thats some a higher senstivitied leveled player will have over one that is performing with a lower number -- the ability to turn and yes, sometimes react much quicker to situational changes.

(4) LOTR, BFME II is decent enough if you were'nt aware. It was released for the 360 sometime ago and boasts many players over its servers. Functions exactly like the PC game with virtually no change. The online world is full of veteran or elite 360 players who've taken their PC tactics to the 360 -- so, becareful! :D

Once or if you've registered your account, be sure to visit the XBox Live Marketplace and check the area's under New Releases to see the content made available from XBox Staffers who went to the recent Tokyo Gameshow. 77 items, varying from trailers, maps, content and demos has been made available. They're are also multiple RTS's in that categorey to check out, so don't miss 'em!

Games you might want to check out:

Chromehounds
Dead Rising
Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion
Dead or Alive 4
Battlefield 2
LOTR, BFME II
Halo 2
