Hi!

I´ve got this vision of using the hl2 engine, with all the phantastic graphics and physics and stuff, for a new kind of adventure game.

The interface of the adventure would be the classical point-and-click method in 3rd person view; in my opinion the best way to interact with our hero in an adventure. I don´t care to much for a "fully" 3d controlled camera in adventure; So you would click at and object and something could happen; moving the same way using point & click. The camera could be controlled with trigger points to create eery camera angles and moods. To create a "live"-feeling and athmosphere we could also have realistic lighting, with objects throwing real shadows and a lot of animations.

The graphics could be very detailed, because we don´t have the "sudden change" of camera angle and enemies which the engine would have to cope with, like in the original shooter. Using the particle engine we could also create athmosphere.

Character animations would also blend in fine.

We could also also build in the available physics engine. So the hero could actually pick up a ball and throw it towards a picture, which would then fall down, unhiding something underneath it; just an example. Also moving and pushing objects away in a realistical way ist also possible.

The main programming task would be creating the 3rd person point&click interface with a "fixed" camera that changes angles via trigger points or it would "pan" when moving to a certain spot. The "object picking" , for example clicking on "a ball" and the computer recognizing it as our object and activating a certain script would also be a programming task. Then of cause the inventory and the ability of allowing the user to combine objects to solve puzzles.

Of cause, the main vital thing for an adventure are the puzzles. sure. so don´t tell me, the graphics and effects don´t count to much nowadays and classic adventure are the best (I still love the old sierra games and "day of the tentacle") but why not combine the two (graphics, effects and the great stoy with logical puzzles).

Well that´s the idea. My vison. So, what do you think of it? Are there any skilled coders out there who would like another challenge than just modding jet another weapon?

bye,
oli

I see what you're saying, and it would be pretty cool. I fear this may be too ambitious in the coding department, as the control and ccamera schemes you proposed will be very difficult to make.

It shouldn't be too hard to do. I just saw point and click and was happy, i love the old point and click games. So hope he does it :D
