I hate it to, but thats besides the point. Its been giving me issues for a good few weeks, a been green and black screen pops up, killing my game, and telling me that the disk is dirty, yeah well I get that with every disc I own, so the dirty one around here is the no-good lieing xbox.

So has my xbox seen its last days, does it have an imbuilt timer to kill itself when xbox 360 is announced, has anyone got these issues before? Do tell.

Good suggestion, altho it's more likely that you need to clean the lense of the laser that reads the discs.

How would I go about doing that?

You're xbox and the only thing that does.

I hate you too.

That seems like alot of hassle, Im not going that far to fix my xbox, Im not his bitch. Never really used it overly much anyways, yeah, you heard me, xbox!

Guess I will wait for the next gen consoles to come out and get one of those.

Go on, attack it for me!

Its not that im lazy, it seems to me opening it up and removing vital parts of it, is not the way to go about things, Im not trained to do it, so I dont trust myself enough to.

well the risk of breaking something is quite small... :rolling:
unless you decide to open it up with a hammer :P

Screw it, Im just going to take a sledge hammer to the thing.

>_> All I ever played was fable, and thats coming out to pc anyhoo.

Well if it's not working, you can't get it repaired for free by MS, why not open it up and have a go. If you take it a step at a time you're sure to be okay? :|

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Give the xbox to me!

/me cries

Sure! :D

I feel like a homeless begger...oh well.

Stop pressering me! >_<

I dunno what i will do, friend of mine might yell at me and fix it himself, if not, I will destroy it. Or whatever.

best bet is to buy a dvd lense cleaner disk, it is likely that your lense is dusty or smudged and needs a cleaning disk

http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/prod...BV_EngineID=ccdjaddekdmmgmicfngcfkmdffhdfif.0
http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?RestartFlow=t&Section_Id=1767&Product_Id=1319

notice: for these products you will need the dvd playback kit + remote to use, they are in the format of a DVD and you cannot use your controller to start the cleaning cycle.

also these are not garunteed to work.. if the problem gets worse dont tell MS you used one because they will say anything is your fault to void your warranty

Replace the DVD drive, I did. Works great.

2 things you can do if your too lazy to replace the dvd drive.

a) buy a lense cleaning dvd, which has a solution on it to clean it, very easy (costs about fiver)
b) Put your xbox in the freezer then hit it with a hammer after half an hour, it worked for that kid

take a bath with your xbox, it'll feel the love and compassion from you to keep it clean and it will begin working again. Make sure that it is plugged in so that it can move around as well. :)

this is a common problem with generation 1 xbox units. in fact I know 4 people who's xboxes have done the exact same thing (including mine currently) all generation 1, which were apparently manufactured in Mexico with subpar drives.

cleaning does not help (at least in our cases, we took em apart and cleaned em, used disk cleaners, canned air, etc) you have a few options here,
buy a replacement drive, for like $80 bucks
if you are still under warranty, send it in to MS to fix
stop playing Xbox
buy a new Xbox for $150.

it's very unfortunate how common this is, If I had a chance to interview one of the xbox 360 devs like Allard, I would ask "will the Dvd drive burn out in under two years on the xbox 360s as well?" it is THAT common :(
google it :(
