when i bought my new pc (the one i use to play HL2) i gave my extremely old pc to my sister.

Before i formated the old one, it ran quite smoothly with its system:

200mhz pentium
64mb ram
some sound card
16mb 3dfx voodoo banshee DX7(max)
...

I used to play Ut on it and it used to work smoothly but now its all slow and skipping. the same goes to HL1. I mean i used to run them on 800x600 (ut medium skin and medium world)(HL1 well, high i guess) and smoothly, but now 512x324(something like that) butg with lots of frame drops and all.

I tryed everything and still is working lke shit. Can someone help me out on this???

I posted this thread because i want to challenge my brother in DM(HL1) and UT itself.

Holy Crap that is very old there really is no thing u can do to improve it except buying a new pc u can get one for like 400 bux and they will play those games fine

As always did you install drivers after reformatting? Make sure to install motherboard and videocard drivers or else you will be getting really bad framerates

hmmm i guess its the motherboard driver that i never install. Also i dont have enough $$ to buy new one.

Yes the motherboard driver is really important in keeping a fast stable system. Many crashes are related to motherboard drivers so make sure to get the newest ones. Also I install the Mobo driver, then videocard. It is suppost to be more stable but I dont think it makes much of a difference.

Computers like that install the motherboard drivers themselves. I remeber my old HP computer would install all the sound, video and network drivers all on its own. It was even a clean install of XP and it came with ME. So I'm pretty sure that ain't the problem.
