'Mystery' Squid video + news article

Creepy but it's just amazing how many incredible and bizarre undiscovered lifeforms live in the depths of the sea that we have yet to discover.

The ocean is such an unexplored territory....it almost makes me want to go down there.

Then I realize it's scary as shit, and I am glad I'm on land!

You mean it's amazing how such incredibly horrifying and disgusting creatures live in the sea? Or, furthermore, that God could even permit these abominations to exist?

Seriously, that thing doesn't look terrestrial. It's some alien nightmare creature from a ten year old's bad LSD trip. You never see this kind of shit on land. I'd sooner hug a grizzly than get within five miles of such a monstrosity. My proposal is that we nuke the ocean.

I don't even know why I clicked this topic. God damn it. Thanks for the bad dreams!

Looks like something out of War of the Worlds.

So weird. Like, who came up with that? Squids with elbows? Weird crap.

Am I the only one who thinks this is actually incredibly awesome?

It is very awesome....but I'm still scared shitless of the ocean.

It looks so ****ing alien like floating there, like some intelligent lifeform.

Don't think I haven't forgotten Absinthe. I never forget.

I'm likewise fascinated by this sort of thing. I'd go down there in a minute if it was a little more convenient.

I'm afraid being anywhere on or in the ocean, for fear of what lurks below. It's the scariest place on earth for me.

So I am probably not the first one who was scared shitless of the ichthyosaur... :|

Depth: 4734 metres. How is it not goo smeared thinly across the ocean floor?!

I got about one centimeter into that image before coming to my senses and blocking it. And consequently all images from about.com, it seems.

Close one, you sly bastard! The only way you'll penetrate my defenses now is with ASCII tentacle-age.

Space is nothing compared to the ocean in terms of difficulty. Afaik we still haven't found any real way of living in the depths due to insane amounts of pressure, yet creatures like these have no problems. There's a ****ton of life in ocean, it makes my hair stand on end how imagining what else is down there.

How does ANYTHING live that far up? I bet if you if they came up to the surface, they would die from the heat :p

Either way, how can you swim in the ocean while thinking, "Hey, some hideous, maneating, ****ing creepy creatures are DIRECTLY UNDER MY FEAT!??" Shit, I'd have a heart attack.

ASCII you say? :naughty:

Oh for ****s sake. Oh god. What the hell. That is just deeply disturbing.

Dear God, that is the most amazing, yet horrifying animal I have seen.

"yeahh..thats one of the videos you unlock on the cloverfield dvd..dont be foolin anyone.."

-Haha, hoping that is a joke :|

Dear god. Thats the scariest thing I have ever seen in my life. *shudders*

It's not as creepy without the green light.

Yeah, not as creepy. but I guess they get up to 5-7 meters I believe?

The article said the tentacles were 20 feet long.

I'm more scared of people than animals and critters.

Cool beastie that.

The only time I've been sketched out when swimming in the ocean was seeing sharks while diving for abalone (northern Cali). Sea lions were a little sketchy, but that's only because they came close and moved fast... I didn't figure they'd be after us. I suppose it's the sharks you don't see that are the ones that are going to get you, but there's an island across the way from where we dove that's full of seals, and the sharks feed on seals trying to make the trip back and forth. I saw reef sharks in Hawaii, and (probably stupidly) swam after them for a closer look, but the lurkers (great whites?) that eat the seals up there ruined me, and I haven't been back since.

...but fresh abalone is sooo good.

Woah. That's cool and extremely creepy at the same time.

Awesome, I love the ocean.
I'm actually going deep sea fishing with my aunt and uncle in about half an hour. :D
