I was watching myth busters, and they were doing a test to see how far bullets travel underwater. They took like an m1, musket, m16, and that huge .50cal sniper rifle. The m1 i believe made it the farthest by going like 5 feet, and all the other bullets (including the .50cal) didn't even go 3 feet because the bullet just shattered as soon as it hit the water. The muskett ball went way off course. So basically 3 feet of water is all you need to protect yourself from a .50cal.

Thought it was nifty.

Good, now I will design a portable BulletsAway(R) vest!

Only weighs 2 tons! :p

Wear this 12 foot diameter body vest! No problem.

So in GTA:SA I shouldent get shot when I'm 5+ ft underwater.
:D

that is quite interesting
not sure how it will affect me but................

Wow, next time I'm in the water and someone shoots me. I'll only have to dive 5 feet! Wow AWESOME news to the EXTREME!

well you're fine until you (A) run out of oxygen or (B) the enemy 'nades your ass

Because I always carry a harpoon gun.

(Actually, I wish I did :( , have you seen it in NOLF? W00T!)

Faster than 2500 ft/s didn't make it quite far, the bullets were just ripped apart. The slowest weapons (like 9mm, with 960 ft/s) went the deepest; 8 feet and your safe. The shotgun (3 inch gearslug) did well too, but that gun blew the testchamber apart, so it kinda messed up. It was defenately lethal at 8 feet.

Screw the gun, I will just put my boot on your head, you = dead

My torpedo's travel deeper than 5 feet buddy.:D

Where was the part with the games :(
I think that just refered to the general video gaming notion that guns can shoot underwater.

ding ding

-and even so, i would have never guessed a .50 would only be deadly at depths <5 feet in water.

Ah. I think it would be cool to see a speeding bullet stop right in front of your face.

wierd becuase i saw that same mythbuster and the 9mm little handgun went like 8-9 feet into the water i thought

the police cant stop me now muahahaha

If thats so then how did so many troops get killed in the water at Omaha especialy after the bullet had lost velocity from the bunker to the beachfront

Probably because they didn't go deep enough. History doesn't beat physics. Oh and slower bullets go deeper.

What if the gun is underwater? Does it fill with water and jam?

Curious. Australia isn't a gun culture.

Boomerangs don't go to well underwater.

Most guns can't fire underwater as the water stops the small explosive charge in the bullet from going off. However they’re are some guns that were designed with use underwater in might i.e. the Glock 17 which fires underwater.

I thought I saw that in a TV show before, but until now I never knew it actually existed!

For a second there i read that the guns fills with Jam, like the things you put on toast... lol.

Us aussies don't really need guns, our gang warfare is underneath the eyes of the media, so no guns there. (at least in Melbourne, not Redfren...)
And people who use them for buisness, use them for just that.

Also, i think the spainish use crossbows as their silenced weapon, for their special forces, only on branch tho.

Crossbows? Like... superheated ones?

Accually, m1 did not make it far, it broke on impact, you must have watched the late end of the episode. They had a long water tube, and shot a pistol, and a shotgun, pistol went 8ft, then became non lethal, and shotgun broke the tube, so they had to use a swimmung pool. So conclusion, 9mm travels farthest.

The shotgun shot a chunk out of the ballisticsgel (sp?). It wat definitely lethal at 8 feet.

Yeh but it doesnt look uber cool.

Nope, did not touch it at all, it just broke the sides.
They said they saw that at first because the slug was on top of the gel in the end, but upon further examination it blew a really fugging huge piece out of the gel.

Wrong! Most guns can fire under water, but only one shot. As for the glock, yes the 17 models can be fired under water but you need a modified glock 17(amphibious spring cups), special ammo(sub sonic, sealed primer)and special training. The sound of the gun is actually magnified under water, so much that its possible to go deaf from it. I knew a guy over the net that fired his glock under water in his pool, and hes deaf in one ear now......

I saw that episode awhile ago. I must say, the 50 cal may not be lethal when shot at something underwater.... but hot damn the explosive splash was awesome! The splash went higher than the guy shooting it, it was like a small explosion under water.
