Some of you might noticed people playing as '' %n '' well! for some who don't know this exploit yet... read this.

when you change your name to %n it will force users to crash.
noob: wasnt the %n exploit fixed?
Me : Yes , only for those who bought hl2. Warez versions will crash.

from what I've heard there's already a patch released by EMPORiO.

what we must do ! we should all rename while playing to %n.. for a while just to force those leechers to crash!. There are still alot of people playing without the ''EMPORiO patch'' whether it is there or not

who's with me?:p

There's an entire thread on this in the CS:S forum.

Wohooaa! An entire thread! Unbelievable. I alway thought threads like this come in thirds or fourths. :p

Picky picky.

I'll have to try that out. Do they drop off as soon as you change your name?

See... anything that gets done gets cracked within a day. Welcome to the Internet.

At first I thought this was a good idea... but the way I look at it, I think letting Valve deal with it is the better idea.

I jump into an online game to have fun. My desire to boot these asshats is out of anger towards them for a) ripping off Valve and b) getting something for free when the honest people have to pay. But I've moved past b actually a long time ago in games past, simply because I've realized that copying software -- games in particular, and ONLINE games especially -- simply isn't worth it. I've got a decent job and decent salary. Forgetting the moral implications, trying to get the game for free costs me MORE than it does to buy it simply because of the hassle of trying to download it, circumventing the hacks, etc. I would rather spend the hours doing something else. I bought the silver package, and I don't worry about it.

If there's thousands of people playing who didn't buy it, I don't really care. I see the servers are active, and it makes for a more enjoyable experience. Losing half the players won't help me, especially if it's in the middle of an otherwise good game.

What WOULD and DOES tick me off is the higher possibility that those who hack the game are more likely to cheat and be bigger nuisances to the community. But I trust that Valve will just continually make it more difficult for them to play.

Haven't had this much with CS in a long time I might add :D

Edit:

Yes I believe they crash to their desktops immediately. Not sure about people in Spectator mode. HOWEVER, the interesting part is that their bodies remain through rounds on the map until they actually time out (or rejoin if they are fast). This means free kills in lots :E

I was in a game today and some guy named %n buy the game %n and started spamming. Then half of the server timed out. It was funny. Then the server crashed...

:p nice. I now see why you choose %n as your name in opposing force badger :D

Was'nt there some fix just done on this on Steam?
Yep but its only the legit CS:S owners who aren't effected by it anymore.

And yeah there is another thread about this in the correct section, so locked, sorry.
