N00b question about savegames.

Hi I'm at one of those 24 hour Lan-party establishments and I was wondering if there was a way to save my Half Life 2 progress to play on a different computer next time I'm here?

Not unless it saves your savegames in a shared network folder (so you can copy the save files over to the other computer). You can also just copy your SAVE folder contents (Steam/Steamapps/ACCOUNTNAME/half-life 2/hl2/SAVE) and put it on the network manually or burn it on a CD.
