nope, it's a teaser of what's to come.

yeah, they should really hire some movie FX guys, but that'd probably be mighty expensive and they have more important areas to spend the money.

You mean, other than the Space Shuttle Program?

see: billion dollar failures

This new fleet of Ares vehicles look like they could be the answer though

So they are gonna be building a moon base or something?

Looks like they are doing a proper job of it with multiple accent units, that's what i was hoping they'd do.

Makes sense to blast many payloads of equipment down to the moon remotely before any humans go back.

Guess it's easier than digging a tunnel to the moon.

I could make something 4x better than that by myself (if I had a render farm). That's horrendous CG! Any CG company who takes themselves seriously could do at least 2x better in less than a week.

You'd think NASA could afford some better CGI, but that doesn't matter much. It would be awesome to have a moon base.

What would a moon base do for us? Other than being a slight bit closer to space....and getting all the shit down for building bases on other planets....

Still, we could use the money on ME for gods sake.

A lot of the benefits to people like you and me that the space program gives us doesn't come through the actual objective, but the technology invented thru reaching that objective. Those small microprocessors that made your tiny computer possible, kidney dialysis machines that save lives daily came from tech originally developed for the apollo missions back then.

Hopefully we can see the same trickle-down effect with this new mission.

is the music composed by Harry Gregson Williams?

NASA does make some very good CGI when they are pressed by the media.

This CGI was indeed made by NASA (a fan later added the NIN music)

EDIT: err, at least they hired out to make it.

So are they going to build it next to the old Nazi moonbase?

Supposedly there is loads of Helium-3 in the moon, and that stuff is rarer than rocking horse shite.

Yes. The lunar regolith is also made out of aluminum oxide, which can be made into rocket fuel very easily. Also, concrete made with lunar soil would be tens of times stronger than earth concrete. There may also be considerable amounts of fresh water frozen near the southern pole of the moon in craters that never see the sun.
