NASA's Orbiting Carbon Observatory, a new satellite dedicated to mapping Earth's carbon dioxide levels, crashed into the ocean near Antarctica just after launch Tuesday when a shroud designed to protect the spacecraft accidentally doomed its mission.

The glitch occurred just minutes after the $280 million spacecraft blasted off

thats like $1 lost from every Real American!

It's like raiiiiaaaaiin on your wedding day.

mistakes are bound to happen, I hope this doesn't ruin their funding...

well, when you take into account the excellent statistics of the American education system, this type of mistake is quite rare...

I think it's obvious that this is a sign that NASA needs a bigger budget, a new, clear long-term goal, a short-term plan to work towards that goal, full backing of the congress and support from the American people.

...but then that's what I always think.

$280 million? That's not so bad, at least when compared to things like military expenditure of planes and tanks and shit. Many planes are like 40-50 million dollars.

Don't make me smack you, Sarah Palin! I will back-hand you!

With so much anti-scientific mentality in this country, that's not bound to happen.
