National alliance or Government alliance?

Ok I've seen this on another forum but I thought I would bring it here.

In light of recent events the question is simple, where does you allegiance lie, to your Government or to your country?

I am a UK citizen and as such my alliance is to my country and not to the Government that is in power. If the dully elected Government messes up, my alliance to my country out weights any alliance to the government.

So the poll is simple, what comes first the elected Government or your country?

Hey I know it is a dumb question but I have seriously seen people arguing the point that the elected government comes before the nation.
The argument being that because we elected them, they represent us and the nation and as such we should stand by them
Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with this view point and the only reason I asked was to see if there was any mileage in this line of thought.

If you are going to have an allegiance it will almost always be to your country. You may say or appear to have an allegiance only to the government or political party but then you have to realize that the reason someone would have such an allegiance is because they feel that the government or political party will be the best for the country.
