I don't know how to express my happiness. So I will put it in a sound instead of a word.

Do I dare actually participate in a beta/alpha for once?

Huh. I never bought this game, I won it in a competition, but I do currently have the alpha test thing on Steam, does that mean I have the special black armour stuff too?

Yep. Special Edition is only $40, while Standard is $20 I think? The whole point of buying Special is to help fund them as they are an indie company while getting to help them test/fix shit. :D Standard you get to play the game when it's released. So if you can get the Alpha tools now, then that means you are good to go :)

They have a long way yet.
I want Overgrowth damnit.

A lot of games nowadays try to adopt a "cool" name, but most end up sounding ridiculous and moronic.

Natural Selection is the perfect name for a game, it just sounds so.... epic, just like how Valve adopted the name Half-Life. These scientific terms are awesome, and what we need now is a game called "Uterus".

New community email, it's looking more and more ready for a playable RC. They're looking for the following images to be promoted, so here's my shameless plug--they are, after all, a broke-ass indie developer whose only source of income is pre-orders at this point.

http://www.naturalselection2.com/storage/NS2-SporeAttack.jpg<-- purty lookin' particles, o-chambers, and Lerk-view
http://www.naturalselection2.com/storage/NS2-HallwayBattle.jpg <-- first look at sentries, love the new model
http://www.naturalselection2.com/storage/NS2-SporeAttack.jpg <-- spores again (for those wondering, it's the alien specie's turret, essentially)
http://www.naturalselection2.com/storage/NS2-MarineCommanderMode.jpg <-- genuinely polished looking commander view, glad it's still an
object any player can enter and "log-out" of to defend. The command chair remains one of my favorite gameplay mechanics in NS.

http://www.naturalselection2.com/storage/NS2-SpecialArmor.jpg <--- orders placed before the 26th get to wear this badass shit

http://www.naturalselection2.com/buy <--- Don't deny that the black armor looks amazing. Alpha/Beta access still available. Full steam integration/distribution/community support on launch, just enter the key emailed into your Steam account now and they'll do the rest.

Just doing my part after having played Charlie's free mod for well over a year. It remains my favorite full TC of any game, if not my all time favorite online game. I don't expect anything less than full commitment from his crew in ensuring NS2 becomes an even better game than the first.

NS was asymetrical FPS/RTS combat executed and balanced to near perfection with infinite opportunity for server customization through a versatile scripting language--NS2 appears to be refining this concept for the masses perfectly. The Xenos have no commander in NS, just a builder one may evolve into. It's hard to explain how awesome it is, so I suggest reading up on it. It's quick to learn once you jump into a server.

Did I mention maps can be much (reasonably) bigger while retaining decent textures, it'll change up the game, for the better, quite a bit.

I am seriously considering preordering the Special Edition to get in on this. I used to spend outrageous amounts of time playing NS back in the day.

Marines vs Aliens. Think StarCraft + Half-Life. There is a Commander on the Marine side that places buildings like Resource Towers, Upgardes, Turrets, Etc for players to build and protect. The object is to destroy the Alien Hive(s) and win. VERY VERY teamwork oriented. That's the problem with a new person coming into the fray. They don't know what or where "Ventilation" is, so they just wanted alone aimlessly, thus dying and getting pissed.

NS2 should have a lot of things to help keep it so new people don't get lost instantly, but still hard enough to master that the pro's stand apart.

Check out gameplay videos on Youtube, there are some really awesome ones.

NS remains my favourite MP game of all time (sorry CS). I'm looking forward to it. I don't expect too much from the first alpha release, though.

Glad I got the special edition all those months ago. Super pumped.

With starcraft on the horizon, i dont know if i can afford to spend time playing this T_T

God damnit! I'm upgrading my graphics card (8800GT - GTX260) and Monitor! I can't afford this! I need the special edition!

I used to spend outrageous amounts of time playing it too.

I wonder if I should spend the extra $40 to get it... argh.. so conflicted SO CONFLICTED!

How long do you guys think the alpha will go on before release?

And wait... Alpha... not even to Beta stage yet?

Nope, they just pretty much finished up most of the work on most of the units and stuff. They are only releasing parts, no Onos or Fade it looks like for the Alpha.

just preordered SE

but in the pre-alpha, i get piss poor fps T_T

They will probably fix that. It was the reason for the Engine test, after all!

Is it worth pre-ordering yet or is it still very much pre-alpha?

Personaly I paid for the alpha because I felt the first game was worth buying retail, I got more hours out of it than a lot of games I have acctully paid for, so I figured it was worth supporting the sequal, if it turns out not so good, I wont feel that bad.

I guess that does make me a fan though, so of course that reasoning wont work for everyone. hehe

I also really like following the development of the game, they seem like pretty honest guys that are interested in making their game good, rather than making their own fortune.. time will tell.

I want Overgrowth damnit.

Heh, I feel the same way. They are making great improvements, but I cannot even begin to imagine when they will be finished.

Well the Alpha will go on for a while (a few months) and then go to beta which is when all pre-orders get in I believe.

I would think that during the alpha they will add more and more features (including the fade and onos), and once it hits feature complete, it will move to beta for everyone.

I got the SE the first day. It's a bargain for how much time I know I will spend in the game

This mod, although beautifully crafted, felt too claustrophobic for my tastes. I could never get into it even though i tried to on numerous occasions. A decade of corridor shooters will do that ya, i guess. You get burned eventually, no matter how good the game may be.

It's like when you get to that "oh shit" point and you're using just to feel NORMAL again.

I understand what you are saying completely. Small vents, marines trying to kill Skulks close up, etc. It is VERY fast and close quarters game.

I really didn't like the game for that reason at first, then I Played with some friends who were very teamworky and it seemed better. Then again, I was never burnt out on the claustrophobic type feel.

I was always a skulk, so I absolutely loved the claustrophobic feeling. The tighter the spaces, the stronger the smell of fear in my prey. The first and last their eyes would see of me is the inside of my mouth, as I cleanly severed their head with a single chomp.

You HAVE to play as a team or it isn't fun at all! That's what I used to love about NS 1. You're all in one boat and you have to work together to win. On the other hand it means the game can get pretty crappy when you're on a server with bad teamplay (which is the case on a lot of public servers, sadly enough).

It is NOT just any other FPS corridor shooter... it's much more than that, but you have to really get into it and get a feel for the tactics and the teamplay. IMHO. If you're there, it's just the best game ever released... The suspense, the tension, the action... everything just fits.:thumbs::thumbs:
