Natural Selection 2 engine preview

Is it still gonna be a stand alone game on Steam?
 
I saw this earlier in the week, its not bad, but its got a long way to go yet, I hope they make the game a steamworks release, it should be interesting either way.

whoa didn't realize they've begun on work on their own engine from scratch, that makes it even more impressive, I thought they just modified source. although it does raise some concern on stability and performance.

It's a stand alone game, it will cost you money dollars.
 
I honestly wouldn't worry too much about performance - I don't think the rigs they're developing on are top-of-the-range. If they can playtest it ok themselves it should be fine.
Compatibility is a more likely issue imo.
 
Yes, spending years developing a game and months making a new engine from scratch by just 5 guys will be free, they will just upload it for anyone to use for free.

Who cares, the original game is shit and so is this. Is that guy really wearing an Abercrombie shirt, and is it just me or does the facial expression of the guy on the right make me think he wants my dick? The guy on the left has this "if we were both in prison, I'd **** you in the barn hole before they even gave us our uniforms" look about him, I don't know if I can trust him with developing a half decent video game.

Treasonous! Natural-Selection was absolutely incredible. I can't tell if you're being serious or just being a blithering troll.
 
What they have so far is certainly impressive, so im actually a bit worried about stability and performance. My laptop is plenty powerful enough to play any source game, but as its a mobile GPU, it can be a bit tetchy sometimes. Zombie Panic Source makes this machine turn itself off without any warning. EDIT: Oh, and theres the map-centric framerate fluctuations and stupid smoke effects, but im pretty sure thats just ZP:S.

I have high hopes for this, mind.

They were working with Source for a while, but were (I think) having trouble implementing some of the features they had planned, like dynamic infestation.

The guy doing the engine programming, Max, has a decent amount of experience as an engine programmer. I can't recall any of the games he's worked on off the top of my head, but he has worked on engines for several games that have already been released commercially.

They have a new site up.
They'll be releasing a teaser trailer sometime in the next few hours.

Aaand... The game is getting released this year.

That's it, I'm getting my knife. The TRAILER is released tomorrow, the game's release date, according to the site, is Fall 2009

And out of being hyped to hell at the announcement I read the release of the game as tomorrow.

I cried a little too.

I loved NS, played it when it first came out in halloween, then for about another year until version 2.0 when I got a little burned out in the competitive community. Used to be in a clan called EGC for it and everything.

I absolutely can't wait for NS2. To me, this game is right up there with Valve stuff as far as "must buy" for me. I might even get the special edition (which I never do, for any game ever)

It was my most hyped mod ever.
The Halloween release was one of my happier gaming memories.

Played it to death until every server started turning into a Combat server.
That was their only mistake, imo, conceiving that game mode.
 
Agreed. NS was never about senseless shooting and killing, it was all about strategy and teamwork. I really hope they stuck to the original gamemode on this one. Sounds like they are, but you never know!

Either way, I'm eagerly anticipating this.
 
i swear if that "any moment now" doesnt turn into "ZOMG ITS HERE" any second now im going to shit in a cup and send it to unknown worlds.
 
Natural Selection 2, it's getting so close its palpable mmmmmm.

I'm thinking, once the summer rolls in, my first purchase is most certainly going to be this pre-ordered.

The teaser looks great, and I must say I'm impressed that one man managed to code the engine D: Looks fantastico!
