"near-universal emulator"

Omg, just found this thread!!

This is big news guys. Heh, its funny my brother was talking about the problem the other day. He said that if someone found a way to do it well they would be minted... I guess he was right lol...

:)

Oh, sweet. I'm off to play Final Fantasy on my toaster.

Interesting...maybe now I can finaly use my computer with the perpetual-motion generator :p

Does this mean I would be able to play Dreamcast games on my PC?

This is cool. I hope it runs as good as they say it does. Would this mean console games would be playable on PCs? I would love to see the death of "only on Xbox".

Whoa, that is pretty good if it can pull that off. So far I've only managed Super Mario Bros. on my fridge.

This is insanely awesome. Just imagine, HL2 on Linux! yay! lol

hl2 will probably run great on linux anyway. i dont see why it wouldent.

So is this an OS?
Nope - it allows you to run programs that wouldn't otherwise run on your computer (due to things like your hardware/OS)

Since HL2 uses DX it'd have to be emulated on linux, and so would have worse performance.

If i understand it correcly that software makes the performance gap negligable.

Personally i'm amazed this wasn't done sooner.

Having said that obviously they guy who did it is insainly clever and they've over-simplified the explanation, no doubt, but still.

Translating chunks of code as opposed to a line at a time..... seems like it should have been thought of sooner.

Hats off to the guy, i didn't do it, so i can't really say too much.

does this mean I can run NVidia demos on my ATI card? :D

this will be the downfall of microsoft. maybe operating system prices will actually go down.

I think you already can.

*Goes off and checks*

Edit: Wolfman demo crashed. Maybe you can't...

yeah, maybe.

I wonder if this will boost or bust Apple's hardware sales. I would assume that most people buy Apples because of the OS and applications. I guess it all depends on who has the most powerful hardware at the time (after factoring in any overhead introduced by the "translator").

Also, I can't wait to see the console emulators for the PC that are produced using this technology.

More than likely both.It might bust the G5 and iMac sales, but the other hardware like the iCam and Airport Express would go up in sales because there very envyed by pc users. Now on the software side...OS X sales would probally get a big boost to.So ether way it's a lose win situation for them.

Edit:I forgot to mention that with this software you could play HL2 on the G5.So to tell the truth....who knows.

The MAC's power might actually be useful now!

Just maybe :p

This is really cool if it lives up to the hype in the article.

Yay i can finaly run microsoft programs on the platform they belong...

...the toilet.

That'll be really good for game developers then instead of having to wait months and months for games to be rewritten (if ever) for Mac\Linux. That's be a pretty nifty thing

that and the company that made that would be in the money.. a lot of money :smoking:

Bet it'll be ages until home users can get it - and i bet it'll cost loads to begin with.

Now damn! That is AWESOME!

Finally I can play GT on my PC!

Is it possible to convert console games to PC?

(hoping to ever be able to play Burnout 3...)

Awsome, alot of possibilities in this program.
