It's high time to get a new lap top.

I've basicaly set a limit of $1500 for myself if possible.

I FOR SURE want to be able to play half life 2 and all the expansions. It really sucks to have paid for episode 2 months ago and can't play it.

I'm in Canada in the boonies so Dell is a very poplur choice around here for their support and shipping, but I'm not necessarily hung up on absolutely having to shop there. I could in theory get one in the states and have it shipped to my buddies if I find the right deal. I've been on Ebay a little as well but I'm now at a point where I want some feedback as to what to buy. The only brand I've ruled out is Toshiba. I have had 2 now an hated both of those pieces of crap.

Any suggestions?

gaming laptops from dell will be expensive. heck any gaming laptop will be expensive. there are some decently priced laptops that will run the game ok but not to its full extent that you might want it to be.

I never will understand the appeal of laptops. They're too expensive, not as capable. When I go away from the computer, that's just that... it's my time away from the computer. If I absolutely have to be using a laptop, I'm sure I will be provided one in such situations, like it being a requirement for my job. They'll have to force me to use a laptop on their own money.

Until then, it's on my cheaper more powerful computer locked away like a hermit in my bedroom.

^ Agreed with the others. Desktop beats Laptops in terms of value hands down.

But if you must, Dell is basically the best ones for price / performance. $1500 Can easily get you one that will run HL2 with max settings. If I remember correctly, Dell used to have these special days where you get $xxx dollars off for certain orders. If you're patient, you could wait for one of these things to lower cost. Your focus should be on the graphics card, just get one that is the top of the line available since you won't be able to upgrade from that in the future.

One thing to note is that, if you spent that $1,500 on a desktop, you can easily run games such as Crysis on virtually max settings whereas your laptop won't go anywhere near that.

I do require one for work and I'm self employed.

And I'm "away" from my PC all the time for work (like 5 days a week) so a lap top is an absolute must.

I understand what you are saying but I'm not in the same life situation as you. I NEED a laptop and I'd sure like to be able to game on it.
