I want to share by ADSL Broadband over two PCs. One is in the attic and one is on the second floor, and so Im opting to go wireless.

I want to connect the wireless ADSL router to the computer on the second floor via an RJ45 cable..... and then connect my PC in the attic Wirelessly to the router.

I just want to know if I only need an ADSL Wireless router and One PCI Wireless Card to set this up. Also, will I be able to access the interent whilst the computer on the second floor is switched off?

Im thinking of gettin this router:

and this PCI Wireless card:

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Do you already have a compatible modem ? As that router is a router/firewall only, some come with built-in modems. If not, then i'd recommend getting a modem/router/firewall combination.

In which case, all you need is a network patch cable to attach the second floor computer to the router and that wireless card you specified would be fine for the pc in the attic to connect to the wireless network, assuming the signal strength is strong enough in the attic.

Whenever the modem (be it separate or part of the router, although i'm not sure about usb modems) is attached to the phone line the connection is established, so it doesn't matter which pc's are on or off, the adsl connection will still be established, and any pc attached to the network will be able to access the internet.

That's the exact modem/router i actually have myself. That's basically what you're after. You can get them from many different companies, d-link, bekin, buffalo, speedtouch etc etc. Netgear are generally pretty good, only problem i have is that the wireless reception on my particular router is awful. Having said though, i've owned two similiar wireless routers from netgear in the past in different properties and they've been great, which leads me to believe that it could be the sheer thickness of the walls in my present property, as there is no line of sight between router and pc's this can be an issue sometimes. I find it hard to believe the wireless signal emitted by this router is any worse than older versions i've owned in the past.

If anyone else has any comments on this then feel free to add them !
