Hey, I'm gonna be building a new computer in a couple of months and wanted your thoughts/advice on what I currently want to get. I'm not sure if I should wait till after DX10 and Vista, as it may be too expensive.
If you are buying new I would highly recommend jumping in with the new AM2 socket rather than 939. It uses DDR2 800 memory instead of DDR 400 FYI.
Right now the platform is about the same performance. It would be purely for being able to put in a new AM2 CPU down the road.

The new Nforce boards are also out for Socket AM2. They added better onboard sound (Azalia) than the standard audio they used to come with. They dropped the onboard firewall feature (good thing cause it had issues) and added other network/traffic features.
If it was me, I'd buy the AMD X2 4200+.
FYI the AMD X2 4000+ runs at the same GHz as the X2 3800+ but with 1MB L2 cache instead of 512K and for the same price. :O
