How do I keep myself from murdering my co-worker?

some of you know of my problems with the idiotic people I work with. Here's today's scenario. The vice president is creating a document that will be printed and will be available online ..someone noticed that there were fact checking problems on one of the pages ...literally 2 words had to be changed/deleted. So he calls me up asking me to send him the file I had prepared him with a few changes ..I say sure, takes me all of 30 secs to edit and send the file ..5 minutes later I get a call from the same guy asking me to come to his office to help him with something. Turns out he doesnt know how to save the email I sent him to his folder ..I sit down drag the file from the email to his folder ...done, go back to desk, 5 minutes later I get another phone call asking to come back to his desk......he says the changes that I sent him doesnt show up in the document he's working on.....I literally bite my tongue and stop myself from saying "that's because you're working on a seperate file you ****ing moron" ..so I throw out the document I sent him and apply the changes to file he's working on and go back to my desk ....5 minutes later I get a call from the same guy asking to come back ... he cant find the file he's working on in his folder despite being open in word ..I explain that you cant see it cuz it's open but it's still there ..I close the file and sure enough it's back in his folder ..he says "well it disappeared for awhile maybe it's a virus" ..I say no it's ok it's working fine ..then grumble back to my desk ...If I get another call I'm going to strangle him

so how do I stop myself from murdering him

disclaimer: all implied actions are meant to be taken with a grain of salt, I would never murder a co-worker

But he isn't really trying to be an asshat.
Anyway if you want to get him oof your back, in a polite way. just hug him, most men feel wierd after that and just avoid you.

Tie yourself to the mast, and tell your crew that they are not to let you go no matter how much you ask them to.

he's 60 + he might enjoy it. I know he doesnt mean harm ..but this is probably the 100th time I've had to help him find a lost document ..he has one folder with all his files yet every week he asks me to find the document he was working on the week before ..even when I show him how to order a folder by date created HE STILL cant find it

Poor old sod, just politely tell him you have no time to be helping him all the time or get him to do a computer course.

Do like I do when my mum asks me the same thing for the 2N+8 millionst time : Print out a piece of paper that has nice and clear steps written in such a language that even amoeba can understand them. Give it to him and tell him it will save him a lot of time. That way he won't be insulted and you can relax your ass :p

Why is such a newb using a computer?

Fair enough, older people aren't going to know as much about computers and technology, but why is he doing an office job?

heres what to do, you spend the rest of ur life developping a machine that creates a beam of antimatter particles.... fire it into people you hate and annihilate their matter at a subatomic level into pure energy and thus erasing them from existence!! muahahahahahahaaahh

Or throw them into a black hole, erasing their matter once and for all (Because the theory that matter doesn't dissappear isn't finished yet and I'm too lazy to finish it)

I dont know ..supposedly he's a former advertising executive who's worked for Coke and Wrigley's gum so he knows his away around marketing ...he's also the boss's personal friend. The boss has admitted to me that he has "problems". My IT guy and I joke about his lack of computer skills ...the IT guy has lost all patience with this guy cuz he calls him at home with computer questions like "I cant seem to remember where I put this file"

oh and not all old people are useless on computers ..the father of the internet(s) is over 60

Install NetBus on his PC so when he calls you you can take over his mouse and do the stuff for him without leaving your desk

while that is indeed a good idea that would totally freak him out ...this is a guy who had to be told several times where the power button is ..plus i dont want to have to help him everytime there's a problem ..although he doesnt seem to learn anything anyways ...perhaps that is the best idea

I'm not into these pseudo-hacking applications, so I don't know anything about any VNC.

VNC programs have nothing to do with hacking, they are remote desktop software, like PCanywhere but free.

This is very reminiscant of your other thread on how annoying your coworkers are stern. :E

You could always do something nasty to his computer, but that would result in him asking you to fix it...

One way of dealing with annoying people is to direct them to someone else. So tape a forged note to his desk/office/cubicle/whatever saying that in future he should contact *enemies name* because they have been appointed director of fixing n00bs computers.

This has the added benefit of watching somebody else be crushed under the weight of his timewasteness.

Give him a Computer for Dummies book.

Win-win situation. Except for the fact that it costs money.

CptStern? More like Prison Break's Michael Scofield.

Murder him. That'll stop you from murdering him (you can't murder someone twice!)

After killing him, hide his body under the floor boards of the office.
Make sure to throw away the heart though. >_> <_<

Kill him with that nifty disposable lighter trick you taught us a while ago.

the IT guy pawned him off on me ..there's nowhere else to go cuz everyone's an idiot ;)

last week he came into work all out of sorts ..I noticed some dry blood on his nose and he had a big scratch on the lense of his glasses ..later on he told me he was riding his bike and had misjudged the edge of the curb ....ouch

You don't not murder him. Solution.
