So me and a friend are about to do a little field trip to the best place in europe, AMSTERDAM. We currently live in Italy, about an hour from Venice. Closest airport is the Venice-Treviso, closest trainstation is Pordenone, Venice, or Milan. We have searched around like crazy but we cant find any flights straight to Amsterdam or close to it, only nearby cities, often in surrounding countries. We cant even find any information about train travel because all those sites are impossible to navigate. Once we land in the Netherlands, we must find some bus that will take us to Amsterdam. We will do this trip on the 15th of June, so we are scheduling this kind of late i know :/

So if anyone here has ever traveled to Amsterdam or close to it, do you know any good bus company or train company that can take us to the heart of the European fatherlands? If you know any specific flight routs or train routs that will take us from Venice to Amsterdam, please supply me. Im grateful for any information!

EDIT: I cant believe i ****ing misspelled the thread title.

I'm not even going to change it for you, just so that I can laugh at your folly.

Good choice Samon. Haha, that's a pretty funny mistake.

I live in the Netherlands
If you have already got a flight planned, I can help you getting to Amsterdam, I know how the crappy system of the train/bus works(not sure how it is in other countries, at least I know it sucks here). :)

I think you can find it out yourself, Here is the website of our railroads. Unfortunately the full public transport(including buses) planner is not in English.

I went in 2000, from paris in a bus. I don't recommend it, random checkpoints with k9 units, creepy looking mother****ers sitting the back, uncomfortable as shit. So what I'm trying to say is, try harder to find a direct flight, I'm sure you can find KLM flights at least.

The cheapest way to get here is by bus. If you fly, you should check for flights from Milan to Amsterdam. The sites of KLM, Alitalia and EasyJet will offer more info on that. From Schiphol airport you take the train to Amsterdam central station which takes about 15 minutes.

Don't know what your budget is but this place is a pretty decent hostel, this place is a bit more expensive but not as scruffy, and this place is probably the best budget hotel in town. If money is no object I can recommend the Amstel hotel, but I'd advise against the Hilton since it is way overrated.

For your smoking pleasure be aware that as a rule of thumb the stuff gets cheaper and better the further you get away from the city center. Most coffeeshops (i.e. smoking cafes) in the touristy areas are tourist traps, but there are some exceptions.

If you need any more info, just PM me. And, no, you can't sleep on my couch.

EDIT You fail at Google: Transavia flies directly from Treviso to Amsterdam. Dead cheap too; a return flight is a little over €100.

Don't go to hostels in Slovakia. They'll kill yo ass 4 cash

Amsterdam is the Heart of Europe? Anyway, sounds nice. A friend and I are gonna travel around Central Europe in July with InterRail, it's gonna be awesome.

And some of them look like that ^^

Shakermaker, how does the subway system work over there? The hotel we will be staying at is about 30 minutes walking distance away from the center of Amsterdam, so how much does it cost for just traveling back and forth? Also, just to make sure, you can use Euros over there right? Do you know any good clubs with hardbase music? (hardstyle, hardcore, whatever)

thx

Depends on where you are really. Public transportation is by tram, subway and bus. You pay with chipcards which you buy at a metro station. PM me your address and I'll give you all the tram / sub / bus connections.

There aren't any hardstyle / hardcore clubs in Amsterdam. It's mostly simple club house. The place to be at the moment is TrouwAmsterdam but be prepared to stand in line.

Oh and yes, we have the euro :D
