Need help adjusting Brightness/Gamma

I recently updated to a Radeon 9600xt from a NVidia Geforce FX 5200, and I try to change the brightness and gamma settings for my card. However, whenever I adjust them, they work fine at bootup, but they do not apply anymore when I enter a game.

In games like Counter-Strike and Half-Life 2 Deathmatch (this includes all my games), I can't see shit (lol) since my brightness is so low. And, before you ask, my monitor is at it's maximum brightness.

Could this be a problem with my current drivers? (6.14.10.6525)
