need help. bad

i have just downloaded hl1 off steam and whe iget to the storage room part where the zombie tries to sneak up on the guard i try 2 leave thatr place and when i'm in thhe corrodorr wid all the boxes it shuts down hl completely!

but i'm not worryied about that cos after trying it a few times i realised i didn't even have 2 go there i just continued on. like 1 hour later i got 2 the place where u just got above the surface. i past the place where the army guys swing down the ropes shooting u. i got to this hallway place and hl shuts down again every time! and this time i have no alternate route! i think. help plz

try deleting everything but your saves and downloading it all again

Do you get an error message or does it just switch to your windows desktop?

I had a terrible problem with Steam HL1, big enough to make me buy the game again, because I wanted to play. I got all the way to Gorrach's (sic) lair, and it would not let me defeat him -- he wouldn't fall on top of the web. I shot everything I had at his pouch, and it wouldn't let me win. Finally I just loaded it from CD played again and it worked.
