need help choosing

alright well some of you may have seen my thread about building a new comp, but i decided to wait until the G80 gpu is released so for now i settled on upgrading my current comp as much as possible.

i cant decide on what gfx card i should get...my current mobo only has pci slots >_<

geforce 6200

or

geforce fx5500

i would have put the fx5700 up but its not on newegg =/

What do you currently have?
Between those two I would go with the 6200. Although all the 6200's I've seen are AGP or PCI-Express with 128bit memory instead of the 64bit memory on that card.
64bit vs 128bit memory 6200 cards shown on the graph.
It does not have to do with how many MB the card has.

I'd still pick the 6200 over the FX.

well the 5700le in pci is a good card i was able to oc it to 450/450 but the 6200 supports more graphical features

The 5700LE is decent. A bit better than the FX5500. I bet it is faster than the 64bit version of the 6200 although can you find the 5700le anymore?

The 6200 128bit version would still be faster. Although I have not seen that listed with PCI.

you might want to check again...it says 64-bit in there

...the manufacturers site says 128bit in one place and 64 bit in the other..what the heck =/

another thing i noticed is that the 6200 has shader model 3.0 while the other both still have 2.0

oh and do you guys know if its a good idea to upgrade the processor in a prebuilt comp (emachines in my case) cuz somehow ive been running pretty high end games on here with an intel celeron 2.6ghz (128kb L2) socket 478...i dont want to go too expensive if i do upgrade the processor though

no, dun do that. its gonna give u lots of problem. wait till u get a new mobo and new cpu. i hate emachines cuz the bios is crap and u cant even change the bus frequency (my cpu is running at 1.3 ghz, not 2.2 ghz).

well i just ordered the one from best buy...bfg geforce 6200 oc 256mb

now time to decide if its worth getting myself a new processor..i hate that L2 cache of 128kb =[

oh and price isn't really too big of an issue...despite being 16 i have $5000 already saved up for when i finally do build a comp (i decided to wait until post-vista release) and i get a weekly income of about $200 so i pretty much have all the price issues under control for upgrading my current pc

alright...i did some research on all the processor compatibility issues with emachines and their motherboards...i should be fine as long as i get one that is socket 478, 400mhz fsb, and a northwood core...i found a good p4 on pricewatch for pretty cheap, but its oem so i need to get a heatsink/fan...im probly gonna look for a zalman since ive heard from pretty much everyone that they're good, and im gonna use arctic silver 5 (well duh!)...mhmm

I like Emachines. First computer I pimped out. Also there restore disc works on a lot of computers that I've had.

honestly, if price isn't an issue like you said, I'd stick with newegg or another big name retailer. you'll know for sure you're getting a good product, you'll get it quickly, and if for whatever reason it breaks when you get it, it'll be very easy to RMA. i can't say i've EVER had a good experience ordering from a pricewatch merchant, even the ones with "good" ratings.

i would get from newegg but the only processors on there that are compatible with my mobo are both celerons that are either worse about the same as my current one

tigerdirect only has decent pricec because they rape you with rebates....I've had 3 of their rebates bounce for no reason....stay away from tiger.

well i got my processor and its working great so far =D

i also got an x-fi and 2gb of ram from newegg.. and i ve had an incredible increase in fps in every one of my games and they look and sound great too now =]
