Need help DirectX 7 !! WtF!!!

Hey all im new in this forum so its my first thread.
i hope u read this and can understand the problem and maybe help,
whenever i try to go on CSS it sais "Failed to set video mode-resetting to default game will now restart with the new video setings" then i press "OK"
then again and then again i press OK then the game goes in a little window but then it goes out and says "Failed to set video mode.
this game has a minimum requirements of DirectX 7.0 compatible harware".
which is weird cause ive got DirectX 9.0c
i have:
Nvidia geforce FX 5500 128mb
70 Gb space free
memory:512

any sugestion!!!

ur graphic card should be able to play the game. try updating ur nVidia driver to the latest one to see if it works. im not sure about the directx 7.0 thing though. i got a GF4mx and i run CS:S at 1024 *768 resolution at 45 fps.

Yes you have DX 9.0c but your gfx card has little support for DX9 and runs Dx9 like crap thus HL2 will have it run in Dx8 mode.
Update your drivers as hneaz said.
Hmm...and HL2 and stuff run ok?

Have u had it working before? If so did u mess about in the config? If so try deleting it (or just move it to another folder) and start the game again. u could do the validate thing or u could do the reinstall thing and yes have all your drivers updated especially ur video drivers.

yea they did for me to so i just went back to older drivers
