i hate installing new drivers because i seem to have this problem each and every time i try and updating them and u guessed it.. i tried to update my video drivers and problems again :x

heres my problem: i un-installed using Driver Cleaner program (9800 Pro 128mb card) and then rebooted and went on to install the new drivers except that during installation, it stops and just quits.. it gives me an error too but part of why i feel so helpless is everything in Windows is god damned dark

i can't make out what the error message is.
anyway i go into display settings and none of the ATI tabs are available..obviously since it never finished installing and so i am stuck.

i used print screen (what a lot of ink wastage that was :| ) to try and get that error and what i could make out of it was "Setup failed to run installation, the remote procedure call failed"

liek WTF is that?
someone.. PLEASE HELP.

forgot to add that i have XP, service pack2.
also.. according to ATI.com the latest drivers are cats5.8
hmm.. i thought there were much newer versions then 5.8.

any help?

no help at all?
come on...someone gots to know something about this.

i posted over at the Rage3d forums as well.. waiting for replies sucks. :|

Your supposed to go into safe mode, uninstall the drivers from the add/remove programs panel, THEN clean out the traces with driver cleaner.

I think you're boned. Maybe wiping all nvidia refferences from your Registry MIGHT help, but I think you're boned.

i did do that.
i read the readme file and followed it exactly as it has it written.
as for nvidia, i've never had an nvidia video card so not sure what that has to do with anything.

i had this problem before too but can't remember how i resolved it.. its been too long.

You uninstalled the drivers and control panel using Add/Remove programs first, before using Driver Cleaner, right? Because if you just skipped to using Driver Cleaner, they might not have uninstalled properly. Check and see if you have any ATI stuff in Add/Remove programs. If you do, uninstall the control panel and video driver first, then uninstall the 'ATI - Software Uninstall Utility'. Then boot into Safe Mode and run Driver Cleaner again. After that's done reboot and install the drivers (not in Safe Mode).

If that doesn't work I'm sorry, it's all I could think of.

EDIT: Have you tried omega drivers?

\

sometimes u dont have to unistall mine just overwrites

haven't tried the omega drivers.
i have heard of em..but never tried them or anything... :(
mehhh looks like im gonna have to format.. my Windows is pretty messed up.

Sometimes a fresh install of XP is the best solution. It will most likely sort the problem and also it will make your pc run faster again. I'd say back up all your data, make sure you have the drivers for any SATA/RAID controllers and format!

freshly formatted.
the problem was XP.
of course i had already guessed it considering i hadn't formatted in 2 years...i was just in denial and really did not want to format but ehhh..
all is done now and the computer is responding much better :)
