I'm trying to install a Zalman CNPS7500-ALCU onto mu Asus A8N-SLI SE (Socket 939) mobo.

I can get one of the clips in OK, its just getting the other one thats the problem... the one that requires you to push down using a flat head scrw driver.

No matter how hard I push the damn thing doent go down enough for it to clip in!!

Any tips?

NB: Do I have to use the Fan Mate 2.0 that came with it? I'd prefer to just plug the fan straight into my mobo

Triple-check the instructions to make sure that a) your motherboard is actually supported, and b) that the instructions tell you to use a lot of force. I know installing the stock heatsink on my Athlon64 X2 4600+ took a lot of effort and it felt like I was going to break the damn thing.

Also, no. The Fanmate manual controller is completely optional.

I got it in!

There was an extra metal clip thing that came with the packaging.... I had to slide that into the bit that I force down using the scredriver..... still took alot of force but finally clipped in

BUT I've notice by CPU temp has stayed the same at 30C, the Zalman hasnt made a difference :-(

I hope its good enough to use with the Opteron 180 I'm putting in next week... maybe if I install the Fan Mate 2.0 it would help... here goes.......

Well after putting the fanmate in, the slowest fan speed is 1125RPM and the CPU temp goes to 32C... when I put the fan on MAX (2343RPM) the temp drops to 30C..... not as impressive as I first though it'd be considering the price and size of the thing!

The difference in temperatures will be a lot more noticeable at higher system loads. This isn't entirely accurate, but think of the fan/heatsink as removing a percentage of the heat. 10% of 30 degrees is a lot less than 10% of 60.
