Need Help! Need a music making software that is free

Okay, I have made a million threads on good software to mix and make music and no one has acutually given me a good reply.

I want a free software that is layer based and will allow me to record something (say guitar) onto another layer while the music I have just recorded is playing so that I can correctly add in the stuff I want. Any ideas?
