Need Help PLEASE!!!!

hey guys,
i just purchased Half Life 2 from steam and downloaded it. Ive been playing for a bit and after a few hours of play my game messes up my video card and a bunch of red squares pop up like a checker board. then the only way i can get rid of them is opening up my computer and reseting the BIOS. Now on to Counter Strike: Source. I can play source but the player models at close range are like huge spikes and all messed up and crap.
I can play any other game ( CS 1.6, Medal Of Honor Pacific Assault, Starwars Galaxies, Full Spectrum Warrior)
but everytime i play anything related to HL2 my computer goes bananas!
Computer Specs
3.0 HT Intel
1gb of ram
ATI Connect3D X700 PRO 256MB
Please help guys!
However when HL2 did work it looked AWESOME!! so i dont know whats up.

Go to your console and type flush. It should fix it for the time being. Your card is being taxed too heavily.
