Need Help Pronto

i need help concerning an error which reads(after installing the game and trying 2 launch it):

the requested file .DLL could not be found
fail to load module

this happens wen im tryin to click on the launch icon in the Valve file.ON my dekstop clickin the HL2 shorcut doesnt do anything...i ve try UHARC which compress the HL2 files..but still no results..

Do you have a "Steam" icon on your desktop? That's the one I use to start Steam, then I load Half-Life 2 from there

The shortcut starts off this application:

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe

Did you get the program by Steam download or retail? Which version (gold, silver, collector's, etc).

Well i dont have a steam icon on my dekstop.....yet..so basically i have 2 download steam to ply HL2??

yes u do need steam to play it

What are you installing from? CD, DVD or downloading?

The official version of HL2 runs through Steam. It doesn't give anyone another choice. It should always have installed with HL2 as far as I know.

If I try to load HL2 direct as you try, I also get an error but if I use Steam then it works.

The Steam.exe file you click on should be here:

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe

Have a look in your "Steam" folder in your "Valve" folder and click on a little black and white icon that says Steam.

LOL ,i uninstall half life 2 earlier,so im installing it back now THKS EVRY1 for their help......i will post any probs if it doesnt work again....
