Yes, another nub who needs help maximizing FPS on HL2/CS:Source. Actually, HL2 runs a heck of a lot better than CS:S, I guess because of the frequency of action in CS:S. In CS:S I typically get 20-60 fps, but Id say averaging around 25-30. Thats too low, and its hard to play compared to other games I have. As far as settings, I thought if I lowered them Id see results, but I was wrong. FPS remains low no matter what res or other settings are at, so of course I just left them high. Any tweaks or fixes that anyone might know I would really appreciate. Even if I could raise my avg FPS from 30 to 40-45 Id be stoked. Thanks and heres my system specs:
ASUS A7N8X
Athlon XP 2100+ (getting 2800+ w/ 333mh FSB for xmas)
512mb Kingston PC2700 DDR x2 (1gig)
Seagate 80gb @7200rpm HD
ATI Radeon 9800pro w/ 128mb -256bit
All the newest drivers for hardware, including newest Catalyst drivers and DirectX 9.
PS: The latest Steam Source patch seemed to make FPS even lower and also some textures are solid pink or gray. Whats with this and how can I fix it??
