Hey Hl2.net, I need your help.

I have this really bad issue with my internet where, after a certain time of browsing the internet (around 20 mins usually), I will lose the ability to browse the internet (webpages will load forever and give a "website cannot be found error") but I am still connected. I can still chat using Windows live messenger, download torrents or play online games.

I just can't browse web pages anymore untill I reboot my pc and, needless to say, it's really annoying and time consuming.
Anyone knows the issue or how to solve it?

Thanks!

Have you tried reset-ing your router/modem?

Are you running torrents at the same time?

I believe you have too many connections on your bit torrent client. go into the options and reduce it. What is the value you have set? it's probably called, 'maximum number of connections'.

Also could be DOS related (Denial of Service). Are you running any block lists? I think that would help a lot.

Right. Too many TCP connections will crash most of these routers.

If chipmunk is using uTorrent, he should also be using uTP. That will take a big load off.

Often.

This will also happen if all I'm doing is browsing the internet.

I do not know what block lists are?

Right. Too many TCP connections will crash most of these routers.

What is uTP?

I gotmyself the Linksys Wireless Ultra N Range Plus Gigabit router and have not had one dropped connection since i got it. I used to have the Linksys Wireless B router and that was shit.

This will also happen if all I'm doing is browsing the internet.

Could be something else then, but uTP will definitely help take it easy on your router, bandwidth and such:

What is uTP?
It's a custom protocol for Bit torrent traffic being worked on. It works well. It requires much less traffic (no handshake).

the following webpage will explain it and help you set it up.

http://www.p2pon.com/2008/12/02/utorrent-19-getting-around-throttling/

-You'll want uTorrent at least version 1.82 and you'll want to enable uTP and TCP, not exclusively one or the other. (so you get more peers.)

OK, now you have utorrent 1.82 or 1.83

in utorrent advanced options, I think the field you need to change is called bt.trans.disposition

set the value at 255 (to use uTP and TCP)

But read the weblink about it, cuz I could be mistaken.

I do not know what block lists are?
This is optional, and it's going to be intimidating, but it's very simple and useful IMO. Basically, you are blocking your computer from connecting to fakes and the enemies of filesharing (****ers) that do DOS and many other attacks, not to mention aren't going to share with you.

You'll need to learn stuff here:

I used to lose internet connection when torrenting. I could still use the torrent and other protocols but not surf the net. An update for my router fixed it for me.

Something similar happened to me for a while, was DNS settings in my case.
