im getting a new graphics card soon so i did some research and found 2 cards that suited my financial limit

6600gt with silent pipe, gigabyte at AU$279

and

6800, leadtek at AU$299

i know that 6800 kills 6600gt but i dun know if 6800 is suitable for my comp.
my comp spec is

p4 3.06ghz
512mb
agp 4x

which one should i get?

I'd get another 512mg of RAM if I was you. I would recommend the 6600GT personally, I've got one and I love it.

Go for the SixtySixHundred.

Get the 6800, it's much better. Not only does it have twice the pipes, but it has a 256-bit memory interface which owns the 6600. I'm absolutely sure you can find a 6800 for less money than that.

How could a faster card not be good for you system? get the 6800

yea 6800 is faster i dont really c how u have agp 4x though in that

The 6800 has 12 pipelines to the 6600GT's 8, so not double. Plus, the 6600GT is actually just as fast at resolutions up to 1280 x 1024. Only at 1600 x 1200, or with a decent amount of aa and af does the 6800 pull ahead. So if you're planning to game at anything from 1280 x 1024 downwards i would personally go with the 6600GT

decide of yourself... it looks like the 6600gt is a little more powerful than a regular 6800
Ya know that is really odd. That's the first time i've seen the 6600GT beat the 6800 consistantly by a frame or so.

I've always seen the 6800 tied or slightly ahead over the 6600GT, like this.
Wonder what was different in Tom's article that made it so. I personally would go with the 6800 over the 6600GT simply for the fact that it has more pipelines and if you did OC then it would be a much bigger gain because of that. Not to mention some people have unlocked up to 4 additional pipelines on the 6800 (model/revision depending).

wow that's odd...
Guess i'll hafta consult both sites before reccomending a card.
I wonder which is correct?

Personally i was under the same impression as asus, all reviews i have seen have usually seen a much closer result. The 6800 would be my choice for my pc, but that's because i enjoy a bit of overclocking and would prob be able to get a lot out of it, but if you aren't up for all of that, then i would go with the 6600GT
