Hey guys... to anyone who is knowledgable, I have a friend who is going to be developing and making her own text game, and I am going to be there beside her, as a creative influence, and soon a coder once I get my ass into gear and learn.

However, we need to get a shell for the game, and a host... I was wondering, how is this done?

What exactly is the shell in laymans terms, and how does it interact with the mud? Is there ANY way I can do this myself, at least during development stage, to host it on my own internet connection and computer? Or... what?

Need to find a good, hopefully free text game shell, and understand the concepts behind it.

Well for starters...a shell is an interface to interact with the program..unfortunatly I have no idea how this is done...you must take a course on this stuff cause it sounds complex (I took a small course years ago). And each shell has a different command language...it's pretty scary stuff.

EDIT: I don't know of any free shell sources.
