Ive been listining to the same music for the past year now... I need new stuff. I come to hl2.net for help :). Only rules

1. No rap
2. No metal
3. Post links to myspace/purevolume/whatever so I can hear it before I buy any cd.

Rule number 3 isnt mandatory, but helpful.

I like different stuff too, so if you know any bands that are way different from all the rest, then please post em up. Thanks hl2.net, you're my only hope.

Crap, I messed that up.

I was getting all the myspace links, but my IE froze, so I'm sorry but you'll have to do your own searching... at least I'm trying to help as much as I can :P

Here's my list of artist you should check out:

Nine Inch Nails
Radiohead
Tool
TV on the Radio
Alien Ant Farm
Alexisonfire
Billy Talent
Death From Above 1979
The Decemberists
Explosions in the Sky
Mogwai
The Flaming Lips
Ladytron
Metric
Muse
Thrice
System of a Down

Happy hunting :)

Sweet, so far Ive only listened to the myspace song of The Decemberists and Explosions in the Sky. Both are great. Thanks Stigmata.

And I love RHCP, so Im betting John Frusciante will kick some ass too.

Thanks a lot already :)

As far as John Frusciante goes, avoid "Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-shirt" and "Smiles From the Streets You Hold". That's the eerie shit best saved for the diehard fans. I recommend any of his other records, however.

I recommend you try at least a couple songs from every artist I listed. You'll probably be surprised by a couple of them.

But yeah, The Decemberists and EITS are awesome :D

Yeah, I will. Those are the two that stuck out for me though, because I havent heard of them before.

Old stalwarts:
David Bowie
Blondie
The Clash
Pulp

Recent:
The Grates (upbeat Aussie pop-punk)
The Hot Puppies (theatrical indie, great singer)

I'll just run through my typical Rock/Alternative favourites:

Led Zeppelin
Cream
Queens of the Stone Age
Desert Sessions
Kyuss
Incubus
Rage Against the Machine
Nine Inch Nails
Clutch
A Perfect Circle
Air
Smashing Pumpkins
Primus
Tool
Ween

I've been stuck on Modest Mouse's new album for a couple of weeks now, so check it out if you're looking for some catchy weirdness.

Jackyl is your choice man. Very different. They play a chainsaw for christs sakes. Look up "The Lumberjack" on youtube. YOU'LL LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The chainsaw solo is amazing in that song, I didn't believe my mate when he told me about it but my god was it funny.
