I'm thinking about getting a new agp graphics card just to hold me off becuase I really don't want to go into redoing my computer from the mobo up. so I was looking at this card:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814103024
The only thing is, well looking at my specs. you can see I only have a 430w antec psu, and the manufacturer of the vid. card suggest a 450w with 30A on the 12v rail and I only have 26A. What do you guys think, is it worth it to go with a bigger psu, like a 500w or what psu do you all think will last, because I plan to go sli in the future and I deffinately don't want to upgrade it anytime soon? Also the 1950pro512 is the best agp for gaming right now isn't it? I thought the car was supposed to be like 50 bucks cheeper also?
Your help is much appreciated. :E

Also why do the specs. on these two cards say that there is only 8 vertex shaders, when at newegg it says the card has 12. The specs on the 3 cards are confusing me:

I'm not saying get this:

but that should give you an indication of the way things are going. Personally I'd get the biggest one I could afford. Think in terms of how many systems it will last you.

I believe the 1950XT is the best but the pro is pretty similar. I'm sure Mr. Brick can help you out there.

As for the vertex shader thing, I could be wrong but I believe they can differ depending on the manufacturer of the card.

You might be able to get away with it, but if you're planning on doing SLI anyway I would suggest something like this or this. They're a bit expensive, but PC Power and Cooling are considered as one of the best. Top notch, over-engineered components and very clean, stable power...

I would buy a new one if you have the money, If the PSU wasn't a decent one then Id tell you not to even try using it with the GFX card as you could blow it. But I say give it a shot, the worse that could happen is it wouldnt work seeing as it's not cheapo.

The x1950pro AGP is a very power effecient card, I doubt it would take more power than your current card. My dad is running athlon 4000+, 2gb ram and 2 7800GT's in SLI on an Antec 450W SmartPower 2.0 PSU. So I doubt there will be any problems.

Btw JFry, there is no XT version for AGP.

So I guess I should just try it with my current psu as it can't really hurt? I'm looking at the one in the third link, is it a typo when it says 8 pixel pipelines, becuase I thought they all cam with 12, what do you guys think?

X1950pro comes with many pixel pipelines.

You mean they vary with brands, or are you just being vague?:farmer:

edit: I think I decided to just go with the 7600gt and not worry about power or my processor bottlenecking the x1950pro.
So i'm looking at these 2 they appear to be the same except they're apparently 2 diffferent cards, hence the different model numbers. I know this is a dumb question, but, should i just go with the one that's in stock or wait for the other one?

I don't know if you realize, but you have an excellent PSU that I'm 99% sure about that it will suffice no problem.

So I'm placing my order at newegg now for these parts:
Seagate Barracuda 320gb - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822148140
Radeon X1950PRO 512MB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814103024
and another 80mm fan.(not that its really important...)
And i have decided to get another psu, simply because I want to be extra safe making sure i don't hurt any of the new parts and also to be future proof for when i eventually upgrade to vista in about 10 months :(.
So just wondering what you guys thought, i know getting the highest end gpu in agp isn't the best idea now, but i have to upgrade from my radeon 9700 and i need somthing that will last.(can afford the whole pci-e switch.)
So what psu should i get for around $100, and also hdd's aren't going to change at all when vista comes out right?

I was looking at this psu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817371001
However i was told by asus that antec is somewhat lacking in quality these days.

Who needs new threads anyways?

Thanks guys.

Thanks alot, So the seasonics seem to be pretty much number 1 right now?
I just spoted this one, i don't know how it is compared to the other ones you mentioned but its 700w and i like the disconnectable cable feature, seems like it could clear up my case a bit.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153039
Edit: oh modular is the name of the feature i like.:)

For a top notch 700W PSU, yes. Why are you surprised, that's the going price for a high power PSU from a top manufacturer... And as far as they go Seasonic are one of the best, add the fact that it is modular and puts out 700W then there is every reason for that price. Quality costs, that's just the way it is.
