It's the summer, and I just finished BioShock 2, AC2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.

Any other new pc games out there you guys would recommend? I'm waiting for SC2, but at this current moment I'm looking for some games where there is a sense of progression (Leveling up, obtaining and upgrading skills.) Any games with RPG elements is what I'm looking for.

If you haven't, you should play System Shock 1 and 2, especially since you mention Bioshock 2 as a game you've just finished.

Avernum 6 (www.spidweb.com)

(or, rather, any game from the second Avernum trilogy (4 ~ 6) I recommend starting from 4, though.

Heck, if you don't mind the serious outdated graphics, start from 1.

This is one of my favorite game series.

Outside... Its the best game I ever played. Check it out!

Dragon Age is an enjoyable RPG. You should check it out if you haven't already.

If you want progression, get a time sink like X3 Reunion/Terran Conflict. I'm enjoying what I've been playing of it, but it's like you're literally thrown into a universe and have to make your own way from nothing. Insanely difficult to make any sort of money to begin with. Big accomplishment when you start making profit.

I've finished Mass Effect 1/2, and have dragon age. Though I'm not going to finish DA: O, since to be frank I got bored of the game very quickly. Not to mention, I never like to play RPG games where one class is made ridiculously stronger than the rest, especially if the game is very focused on class specialization and division of tasks. In DA:O, a mage could tank, dps, heal, better than any of the classess specialized at that role. That alone meant a 4 mage party will outperform any other combination of classes, and that put me off the game very quickly when I realized the best party is to always have at least 2 mages (though I only played nightmare).

I've also played fallout 3, but I quit after realizing the ridiculous amount of bugs and glitches in the game. Fun while it lasted though.

I'm actually looking for some newer games, around a year old at most. I've looked at the X3 before, but the box description as well as the reviews put me off (I only buy top reviewed games nowadays). Games that are in stores (and not only downloadable off internet) would be good. I never enjoy purchasing games off the internet.

i liked bioshock 1 and 2 and if i could get system shock 1 and 2 to run on my pc i'd play them :|

The near decade long unavailability of System Shock 2 has been PC gaming's longest running wtf moment. Sure there's some bullshit licensing issue, but EA sat on the title's release long before the millions of people who never even purchased the game crawled from the woodwork to bitch about Bioshock's similarities. It's really is a sorry state of affairs.

This thread: hell knows. It sounds like you've played mostly everything.

Come on, hasn't anyone here played any Spiderweb Software games? Other than the long-dead Edcrab?

I want some sort of system shock hd rerelease!!! :flame:

I played the demo for Nethergate Resurrection and one of the Geneforge games a while back.:)

I like to do a little research before playing a game, and spiderweb games seem to have minimal publicity on their games. I looked at Avernum 6 and honestly the game has god awful graphics and audio for a 2010 game. I know its shallow to judge a game by its looks but the gameplay seems very very slow-paced as well. Maybe I'll give it a try if a demo is available

Anyone played metro 2033 or saboteur? Are they any good?

I loved Metro 2033 and enjoyed The Saboteur.

Played both on the 360 though, so can't comment on the PC versions quality.

Is Saboteur basically a Hitman/Splinter cell game?

I'm thinking of getting either one of the two, but I will probably go for the one with the most replay value/gameplay length.

Geneforge, huh?
I've only played Geneforge 5. It was quite good, actually. I like the old Avernum games better. Never played Nethergate; didn't really appeal to me.

Of course it was the Exile series (which are like '95 versions of Avernum) which got me hooked in Avermnum games.

No, The Saboteur is more like a sandbox destruction game with stealth elements.

I wouldn't copare it to Hitman or Splinter Cell, it's more shallow than those.

The weird bit is I constantly find myself buying MMORPG-ish games that are action RPG games, though the only ever action RPG game I played more than a week is Diablo (In fact I went a couple of years with Diablo II). I got Titan Quest and Dungeon Siege 2, but after playing for a few weeks with I immediately switched back to other games. I guess when I got bored out with Diablo II, I got completely bored out of the action RPG genre. It really shows how much of an impact Diablo II had on the genre, and in my opinion no other action RPG game could even touch Diablo II at the moment. Diablo II had so much replay value, which was the most vital for it's genre.

So does anyone recommend metro 2033 or Saboteur? Or are they games that lose it's appeal in a matter of hours? In the mean time I'll check out Avernum.

Metro 2033 is a fairly short FPS, if you never find yourself replaying FPSes, then it certainly will lose it appeal after the first playthrough.

The Saboteur is a great game if you're motivated to 100% a game(as in unlock everything, destroy every objective etc) but it does get quite repetitive if you wish to do so.

Well, if you're into old school shooters you can give Serious Sam HD and Serious Sam the Second Encounter HD a try. Then there's also the new Aliens vs Predator game. It's....a bit rough around the edges but it's still a fun game/ Especially if you're a fan of the Aliens and Predator series.

It's an indie dev, go figure. :P

Titan Quest is fun. It'll burn time until a new RPG comes out.
While we're on action RPGs, Torchlight is well worth a spin. Only thing it doesn't have is multiplayer, but solo play is fun for a good while.
